Job Summary: Senior Designers must have the skills and experience to handle art and design responsibilities for an entire book, with ongoing supervision and assistance from the Creative Director. After an initial planning discussion with the Editorial Director and Creative Director, they work closely with the Creative Director, Editor
and Photo Editor to create a book on a given topic (usually 96 editorial pages, with Creative Director designing the covers). Throughout the process, the work is reviewed and critiqued by the Editorial Director and Creative Director, and feedback is incorporated into the layouts.

Primary Responsibilities: Consulting on the book map, researching and choosing photography with Photo Editor and Creative Director, creating or assigning illustrations and informational graphics, researching or creating graphic elements, researching and acquiring fonts, creating a distinctive graphic look and design for the topic, arranging type, photography and graphic elements in InDesign layouts, flowing in live text, captions and display type, checking layouts in the Time Inc. Woodwing system, assigning all text elements to InCopy, working with Editor to fit text and make corrections, attending meetings and wall shows throughout process until book is approved and shipped, approving bluelines from printer.

Requirements: Proven work experience as a Designer in print and digital formats at comparable consumer publications. Proficient use of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and other visual design tools. Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio.
