Summary: The design engineer will provide fundamental engineering support to develop initial design concepts through proto-typing and production release.
Design complex opto-mechanical subsystems and precision machine components that meet requirements using engineering design principles.
Innovation and creativity to produce highly reliable, functional components.
Designs will incorporate Design For Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA).This individual will interface directly with R&D, Manufacturing and external vendors to resolve design and fabrication issues.
Responsibilities:
Develop optical layouts to determine optimal sizes and shapes of the components in optical systems
Design precision machine parts for mounting lens, mirrors, filters, miniature motors, laser, sensors, PCBA and heatsinks
Design fixtures to mount an assortment of components to evaluate mounting, alignment, beam manipulation, or focusing
Selection of structural material for optical properties including surface finish and material coatings
Create complex 3D model parts, large assemblies and fabrication drawings utilizing Pro-Engineer – Wildfire 5.0
Apply Top Down Design methodologies (TDD) to develop 3D layouts of optical systems
Perform complex assembly interference checks to insure proper fits , clearances & mating part interface
Generate detailed Fabrication & Assembly drawings per Global Drafting Room Manual (DRM)
Demonstrate strong working knowledge of dimensioning & geometric tolerance per GD&T - ASME Y14.5 M
Perform assembly and optical tolerance stack-ups and determine component dimensional constrains
Utilize Pro-Engineer Foundation modules: Detail and Pro-Report, Adv Assembly Ext, Sheet Metal
Utilize Windchill PDMLink to control and update CAD data

Minimum of 5 years' experience in Pro-E/Creo, including knowledge of Large Assembly Management
Knowledge of Zemax software and CAD Assembly integration is highly desirable
