Systems Engineer

The Systems Engineer will be a key contributor to the maintenance and optimization of our five business units' client network and wireless infrastructure. In this role, you will enjoy the challenge of working on several client requests from straightforward to complex.  You will resolve tickets and implement technical solutions to ensure stability, integrity, and efficient operations.  This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing our monitoring system, networked software and associated operating systems. The Programmer / Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.



Strategy & Planning

  • Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of monitoring software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.


Acquisition & Deployment

  • Design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
  • Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
  • Onboarding of monitoring clients, new technologies, etc.


Operational Management

  • Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing monitoring systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
  • Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
  • Evaluation of new technologies (support of channel, marketing, BUs etc.)
  • Assist with help desk support (tier 2 support)
  • Training internal staff


Position Requirements

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience in implementation of software systems, applications, and related products.
  • Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices.
  • Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.



  • Maintain and support multiple Linux (Ubuntu) servers running on AWS Ec2 instances.
  • Write SQL query's and functions while preforming administration on multiple MySQL databases hosted on Linux
  • Administration of Apache2 with reverse proxy topologies.
  • Managing iptables and NAT routing on Linux servers
  • Configuration and use of network monitoring and management tools to include Nagios, Datto, Icinga and Grafana
  • CI/CD utilizing Atlassian Products, Jira and Confluence and informing stakeholders of progress and level of effort for features
  • Develop SOAP and RESTful API integrations with Python and BASH scripts.
  • Manage AWS infrastructure to include Route53, Ec2, VPC, and security groups.
  • Support Autotask management and reporting.
