Boiler Technician

 Function of Job:
Under general supervision of assigned supervisor, maintain and supervise heating systems operations, with special responsibility for emergency service, maintenance of equipment, and installation. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Travel to sites of various heating system facilities to provide routine and emergency services.
  2. Troubleshoot, supervise, and/or make repairs on gas and fuel pressure lines, boilers, heaters, pumps, compressors, motors, controllers, reducing station, heat exchangers.
  3. Schedule and supervise external contractors hired for work related to heating systems.
  4. Direct boiler work such as tube, header and brickwork, casing work and flue work.
  5. Install heating system equipment as required.
  6. Order oil and gas deliveries.
  7. Inspectfuel tanks.
  8. Prepare and maintain records on treatment, oil, gas and chemicals consumption and steam and hot water production.
  9. Cooperate and work with State and other inspector's, as required.
  10. Operate boilers and controls.
  11. Train and supervise staff on operation and repair of equipment as assigned.
  12. Participate in institutional professional development and training.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned. 
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
  1. Technical school graduation.
  2. Valid Master Plumber's license or equivalent technical training.
  3. Four years experience as a journeyman, plumber, pipefitter, or mechanic, including one year of supervisory experience.
  4. Knowledge of heating systems, boiler and other related power equipment, boiler chemistry and water testing procedures, and boiler codes and safety standards.
  5. Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job.
  6. Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
