Sr. Network Engineer

The work will be tied to specific deliverables, which are generally as follows:
  1. Work with Cisco, Nokia and internal Intelsat employees to build a centralized NFV environment to evaluate L2 over Satellite extensions for an orchestrated VXLAN/NFV core to deliver managed services:
    1. Managed Router
    2. Managed Firewall & Content Filters
    3. Managed SIP Gateway
    4. Virtual EPC
    5. Others as defined by Product Management
  2. Create a High-Level Design (HLD) for #1, to be delivered to Service Architecture for Low-Level Design and Engineering Operations for deployment:
    1. Orchestration
    2. VXLAN Service Chaining
    3. FCAPS Management for centralized NFV solution

Job Details:
  • Provide consultative support for management and sales with complex customer requirements and product initiatives.
  • Develop and architect technical solutions based on product and corporate initiatives.
  • Research and investigate new technologies and features that may prove beneficial to existing or future products and solutions.
  • Provide leadership for research and development of new technologies such as Evolved Packet Core (EPC), Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), and Cloud initiatives.
  • Provides extensive knowledge and experience with industry best practices for network architecture and engineering of robust networks, products and services, as well as system design and implementation.
  • Serves as an architect for complex managed services to evolve our products offered to our partners and customers.
  • Develops processes required to ensure high-level concepts of operations are communicated and well understood.
  • Assess and recommend enhancements to existing infrastructure to address growth, technology evolution and industry trends.
  • Collaborate with other internal groups for design analysis, planning, and coordination.
  • Develop high-level design documents, as well as Concept of Operation (CONOPS) and other documents as needed.
  • Provides consultation to other groups including engineering, operations, product, and sales.
  • Accommodate meetings with partners, vendors and customers to support requirements analysis and solutions development.

You must have the following knowledge, skills and abilities to be considered for the role:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or Network Engineering Technology with at least ten (10) years of relevant experience in IP network architecture and design (not operations) in an ISP environment, including at least five (5) years of relevant experience in IP-based Broadband design, implementation and support (Satellite, DSL, DOCSIS or 3GPP).
  • Expert-level knowledge including, but not limited to: M/BGP, MPLS-TE, L2/L3 VPN), ISIS, OSPF/OSPFv3, RSVP, LDP, EIGRP, IGRP, RIPv1/2, MSDP, PIM-DM/SM, WCCP
  • Work experience must demonstrate expert knowledge of switching, including but not limited to: CGMP, IGMP, 802.XX, Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, VLAN/Trunking (802.1Q and ISL), EtherChannel, Wireless, Spanning Tree (STP), HSRP, VRRP, TRILL, CLOS.
  • Extensive design and architecture experience with a wide range of technologies including routers, multiplexers and switches, signaling protocols, as well as access and transport technologies including but not limited to DOCSIS, CWDM/DWDM, SONET, Terrestrial/Satellite Leased line, 3GPP/EPC Framework and WiFi.
  • Well-developed knowledge of industry best practices and network architecture, with experience implementing OpenStack, VXLAN, NFV, SDN and Orchestration to address business needs for managed service offerings
  • Understanding of ancillary technologies used to support network backbones such as management and metric gathering tools (SNMP, Netflow), packet capturing tools, and automation tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a central networking professional responsible for design and planning of next-generation network products and services in an ISP or Mobile operator environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and ongoing high-level operational support.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain processes and procedures for network optimization and automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership for project assignments and advocate for enhancements to solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide mentoring and guidance to less senior network engineers to increase in-house expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide written status reports, SOW's, RFP's, design and planning documents, etc.
  • Possess an understanding of Operational Support Systems (OSS) that supports the FCAPS model.

The following additional knowledge, skills and abilities are necessary for this position, and the certifications are considered a plus:
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and/or Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) certification
  • Certified OpenStack Administrator (COA)
  • LINUX Foundation Certified SysAdmin and/or Certified Engineer
