RN - Admissions Staging Unit

General job duties. Types of procedures required:
ASU: Completing the admission history, assessment, and medication reconciliation. If inpatient beds are not immediately available, starting the inpatient plan of care for any type of medical surgical unit

Equipment utilized in the unit/dept:
Epic is our electronic health record. Medications are dispensed via pyxis. Standard medical surgical rooms, with IV pumps, NIBP monitoring, pulse oximetry, SCDs, bedside glucose testing, or any other type or routine equipment on a medical surgical floor,

Required skills and minimum years of experience:
Require 1 year of medical surgical experience. Basic assessment, medication administration, communication, and documentation skills.

Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required:
BLS and Indiana RN licensure

Shift or schedule requirements:
12 hour shifts
No call required, 3 weekend shifts within a 4 week scheduling period are required.
They could occasionally work alone, therefore they need to be comfortable with independent work.

Floating to other units/departments:
Floating could occur but individuals would be asked to go to similar areas such as the surgical unit, medical units, Ortho Neuro Trauma unit, oncology, or to the other overflow units such as Mod 3 in the ER. Assignments would be appropriate in each area and care would be for med/surg type patients. If floated to ER area it would be to take care of patients currently admitted and holding for a med/surg bed.

Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept:
ASU: 8 beds / 8 rooms. This is not an inpatient unit, but an admissions unit, if beds are available Length of stay in the area is 2 to 3 hours.

Nurse to patient ratio of this unit:
1:4 or 5

Caribbean Blue Scrubs

Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program:
We will require attendance at our initial nursing orientation and validation of Epic competencies

Orientation will be Mon-Fri week 1 and Mon-Tues week 2 - 8 hour days. MANDATORY ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL 7 DAYS OF ORIENTATION.
