RN - Med/Surg Flex Team

1.General job duties. Types of procedures required.
6 and 7 Medical: Completing the admission history, assessment, and medication reconciliation. Head to toe assessment, medication administration, patient education, developing the patients nursing plan of care. Communication with all members of the treatment team.

ASU: Completing the admission history, assessment, and medication reconciliation. If inpatient beds are not immediately available, starting the inpatient plan of care for any type of medical surgical unit
Mod 2 & 3: Completing the admission history, assessment, and medication reconciliation. If inpatient beds are not immediately available, starting the inpatient plan of care for any type of medical surgical unit
Equipment utilized in the unit/dept:
Epic is our electronic health record. Medications are dispensed via pyxis. Standard medical surgical rooms, with IV pumps, NIBP monitoring, pulse oximetry, SCDs, bedside glucose testing, or any other type or routine equipment on a medical surgical floor


2.Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)

3.Required skills and minimum years of experience.
Require 1 year of medical surgical experience. Basic assessment, medication administration, communication, and documentation skills.

4.Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)
BLS and Indiana RN licensure

5.Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)
12 hour shifts
No call required, 3 weekend shifts within a 4 week scheduling period are required.


6.Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)
This position is a flex position. The RN will be preassigned to ASU, Mod 2 or 3 in ED, 6 Medical, or 7 Medical. Floating could occur but individuals would be asked to go to similar areas such as the surgical unit, Ortho Neuro Trauma, or oncology. Assignments would be appropriate in each area and care would be for med/surg type patients. When in the ED areas, it would be to take care of patients currently admitted and holding for a med/surg bed.

7.Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.
Med 6 and Med 7: 36 beds/36 rooms each department
ASU: 8 beds/8 rooms
Mod 3: 10 beds/10 rooms This is not an inpatient unit, but an admissions unit.

8.Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)
All units above have a 1:4 or 1:5 ratio

9.Dress Code:
Caribbean Blue Scrubs

10.Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program.
We will require attendance at our initial nursing orientation and validation of Epic competencies. Orientation will be Monday-Friday week 1. Attendance is mandatory for all 5 days.
