General job duties. Types of procedures required:
The Hospice RN works 12 hour shifts D/N rotation from 0700-1900 and 1900-0700. Nurses in the inpatient hospice facility manage the direct patient care of patients at end of life as part of an interdisciplinary team, ensuring the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs are met. Patients of all ages are cared for in this facility. Patients in the hospice facility may require aggressive symptom management through a variety of procedures; including, but not limited to: subcutaneous infusion, IV infusions, and palliative sedation. Critical thinking is essential as patient symptoms can change quickly. A willingness to work beyond role is also essential in this small facility to ensure patients needs and goals are met, including light meal prep.

Equipment utilized in the unit/dept:
Computerized charting (Epic), AcuDose medication system, ceiling lifts, therapeutic bath system.

Required skills and minimum years of experience:
No specialized skills requierd. Experience in hospice or palliative care preferred. Strong med-surg background, geriatrics, or generalist experience is beneficial in caring for this population.

Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required:
Registered Nurse licensure in state of SD, BLS.

Shift or schedule requirements.
12 hour shifts D/N 7-7. Weekends (every other) and holidays required. Employee may work alone, depending on census with a resource on call RN and manager. No on-call shifts required.

Floating to over units/departments:
May be asked to float to residential facility.

20 beds

Nurse to patient ratio of this unit:
Dependent on acuity 1:3 to 1:7

Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program:
Permanent employees receive a 6-8 week orientation, working through a pathway that combines clinical and classroom experience in addition to shadow experiences in oncology, pediatrics, and pulmonology.
