Project Description:
  • Work schedule: Mon - Fri 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
  • Under minimal supervision, performs testing of raw materials, prepare multi-component formulations and finished products.
  • Will be responsible for department purchasing card responsibilities.
  • Performs sampling of skin permeation flux study media for HPLC testing.
  • Maintains inventory of cadaver skin tissues.
  • Prepares standard and sample solutions, and maintains appropriate documentation.

  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures, and state, federal and local laws.
  • Performs sampling and testing in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and current Good Manufacturing Procedures (cGMP's).
  • Prepares cast film laminates from various active and placebo casting solutions per specifications.
  • Will set up, perform testing, and take samples for cadaver skin flux studies to evaluate performance of new formulations as well brand products.
  • Microscopic analysis and evaluation of transdermal systems, gels and creams for drug crystals or other physical properties.
  • Prepare active and placebo formulations of gels, creams, ophthalmics, transdermal systems and oral thin films.
  • Performs physical tests such as shear, adhesion to steel and tack on laminates.
  • Disposal of biological and lab waste according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
  • Prepares standards, buffers, mobile phases and sample solutions for HPLC/UPLC.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation (records and lab notebooks) and formulation spreadsheets as required by SOP's and cGLP's.
  • Will be our department purchasing card (P-Card) holder, and order, purchase and receive laboratory supplies and maintain inventory control of chemicals.
  • Will prepare month end P-Card reconciliation reports.
  • Complies with all cGLP/GMP and safety requirements, laboratory SOP's and Company policies.
  • Complies with good housekeeping and safety practices; washes glassware, used Franz cells and ensures cleanliness of testing equipment.
  • Order and maintain inventory of cadaver skin as needed for skin permeation studies. Will need to perform epidermal peeling of whole skin.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


Required Skills:
  • Drug permeation studies and related equipment.
  • Proper care, preparation and use of cadaver skin for drug permeation studies.
  • Techniques for cast film laminate manufacture and drying.
  • Proper use and technique for light microscope.
  • Basic chemistry and math, statistics, and related sciences.
  • Formulation spreadsheets, pH testing, balances, pipetting and good laboratory techniques.
  • Computer programs and applications (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Reading, writing and speaking English
  • Reading, understanding and compliance with Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.
  • Setting up, organizing and completing a skin flux study.
  • Operating a personal computer.
  • Communicating effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Working independently with little or no supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in chemistry or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of related laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Incumbents in this class are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, and lifting materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Incumbents may be exposed to or work with toxic materials, toxic gases, electrical hazards, dangerous tools and equipment and will need to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as needed.
  • Work is performed in laboratory environments.


This 11+ month position starts ASAP.
