Lunch -1 hour to be taken between 12:00 pm 2:00 pm

Mandatory skills/certification(s) Requirement:
Familiarity with databases/data entry and data review; strong oral and written communication skills; attention to detail

Desired skills:
Data analysis using Excel
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), state database

Knowledge, skills, education, and/or experience
Bachelor's degree preferred; knowledge of public health/communicable disease and/or laboratory testing preferred

Duties and Responsibilities
This position is a member of the Zoonotic Disease Team within the Infectious and Zoonotic Disease Program (IZDP) and based in in Trenton, NJ. The Laboratory and Research Specialist II (Advance-Expert) will work under the supervision of the Vector-borne Disease Coordinator to provide assistance in reportable disease investigations. Specifically, the temporary Laboratory and Research Specialist II (Advance-Expert) will:
Review reports of zoonotic disease in reportable disease database and provide guidance to local health departments on investigation.
Assist in classifying cases using nationally accepted criteria.
Prepare specimen approval forms for laboratory testing.
Contact laboratory staff to obtain information needed for reportable disease investigation and to coordinate shipping and receipt of specimens.
Solicit reportable disease investigation information from clinicians and infection preventionists.
Prepare summaries of zoonotic disease data.
Assist zoonotic disease team with administrative support needs.
