Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager, performs a variety of both routine and complex laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures. Demonstrates experience with histology procedures (grossing, paraffin-embedding, sectioning and H&E staining and coverslipping. Maintaining accurate and detailed records of work performed. Ability to independently assess staining results for QC purposes. Ability to cut frozen sections. Demonstrated ability in the operation of microtomes, tissue processors, automatic stainers, balances, tissue embedders, water baths, ovens, pH meter, microscope, automatic coverslippers, computers, printers and other related equipment. Knowledge of preventive maintenance of all laboratory equipment. Computer competency a must. Work produced is subject to precise measure of quantity and quality; Attention to detail is critical to the successful performance of this job as it directly affects patient diagnoses or research outcomes. Many department laboratories operate 24/7 with schedules on day, evening, or night shift. Rotating schedules which may include weekend work and holiday assignment.
