Crating Shipping/Receiving Clerk

Job Description
Function: Previous experience with heavy freight packaging, crating or wood working preferred. This person on a daily basis will be preparing heavy freight items for shipment, including placement and bracing of said items within semi-finished crates for Client product to be shipped. The ability to read and interpret blueprints is an integral part of the job, as is the willingness to engage with product & packaging designers on the practical application of new product introduction. This person will need to use power tools, including pneumatic air guns and various saws and drills. This person will also have to operate machine assist for lifts rated up to 5 tons.
Essential job functions: The Shipping/Receiving Clerk is responsible for his/her own work. They prepare product for shipment to and receive material from customers, suppliers, and subsidiaries. The incumbent is fully versed in all transactions required to create shipments and receipts, generating receiving documents, performing inquires on purchase orders and sales orders, and making necessary modifications and corrections. The Shipping/Receiving Clerk must know how and when to use the appropriate transaction and which screen to use to inquire and obtain information.

Familiarity with the UPS, FedEx, DHL and other logistics portals systems is required. As well, the incumbent will be required to interface with customer shipping portals. The Shipping/Receiving Clerk will also be called upon to process inbound field repairs. They, therefore, will be trained on and required to have a thorough understanding of the Return Units Reporting (RUR) system.

A high degree of accuracy is required for the transactions generated by the Shipping/Receiving Clerk. In our on-line, real time business system, errors can be immediately accepted and processed. These transactions generate invoices to customers and subsidiaries and authorize payments to suppliers and carriers.

The Shipping/Receiving Clerk interfaces daily with balance of the Material Handling team, Assembly and Test, Machine Shop, Customer Support, Supply Chain, Engineering and other disciplines. In an environment of changing priorities and unanticipated demands, the Shipping/Receiving Clerk must be flexible in the performance of his/her duties. As the Shipping/Receiving Clerk may deliver priority material, a thorough familiarity of Client's facilities and organization is required.

The Shipping/Receiving Clerk performs his/her duties with minimal supervision and may assist in training new personnel. Physically, the job demands that the Shipping/Receiving Clerk be on his/her feet constantly and be able to lift materials and containers from less than one pound up to 75 pounds, regularly. Proper packaging and handling techniques are required to prevent damage to parts and product. Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) and Hazmat training is required.

The Shipping/Receiving Clerk must be trained and able to operate a wide range of material handling and packaging equipment on a daily basis, including: manual and motorized pallet jacks, forklifts, cargo vans, foam machines, heat sealers, table saws and other power hand tools. Additionally, Shipping/Receiving housekeeping activities, storing and stocking supplies & materials on and off site, will be required.
