Conventional Machinist

Moog Chatsworth has two open positions to fill. The need is immediate due to recent turnover that has occurred.
Essential job functions: The incumbent is expected to work responsibly and efficiently within a team environment while maintaining a high level of quality and efficiency in the manufacturing of precision components. He/She needs to be proficient using machinist gauging and is responsible for the inspection of all work performed; detecting unusual conditions, defective materials, and deviate parts; and recognizing errors in blueprints and operation sheets. The incumbent also needs to maintain company safety, quality, and productivity standards per specification.

Interprets blueprints and Manufacturing outlines. Sets up and operates highly complex work on machines such as but not limited to: Conventional and CNC lathes and mills, producing production, prototype and tooling hardware.

This position requires at least 10 years' experience in the machine shop environment fabricating complex parts with extremely tight tolerances. Is proficient in shop mathematics/trigonometry and must know how to apply Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing.

Incumbent is responsible for inspecting his or her own work, using a wide variety of measuring equipment such as: Sine Plates, Micrometers, Height Gauges, Dial Bores Gauges, and Indicators to tolerances of .0002.

Fabricates fixtures and special cutting tools as required for fabrication and repair of hardware.

Consistently meets established time standards and rejection rates are held at a minimum. Works with minimum supervision/instruction and requires the use of good judgement to make decisions as to the sequence of setup, operations, and the limit of the process.
This position requires constant attention to detail. The cost of scrap and rework at the final stages of manufacture can easily exceed thousands of dollars.

Assists junior level machinists with assigned tasks and provides training as needed.

Required skills: Must be capable of inspecting his or her own work.

Must be able to do simple editing at the machine.

Applicant will be expected to hold extremely close tolerances, as small as +/- .0001 on the lathe.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Other Requirements
The manager is most interested in candidates that have the ability to do manual machining. Manual machining will be a requirement for this position.

Experience with set-up and operation of Mori Seiki SL-2 N/C lathe - a plus
Experience with set-up and operation of Fadal 4020 4 Axis N/C Mill - a plus
