Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work with stakeholders, users, and a cross-functional team of collaborators to define, design, conduct, validate, and deploy data analytic models that predict, forecast, classify, and simulate outcomes. Candidate will use predictive modeling, modeling and simulation, data mining, statistical analysis, forecasting, econometrics and related data science tools and methods. Candidate will extract, prepare, and transform data from an Enterprise Data Warehouse to acquire historical data and outcomes for analysis. The objective is to provide data-driven decisions based on trends and patterns of behavior. The candidate will translate complex business problems, apply advanced modeling techniques, and undertake exploratory data analysis on data sets and present analytical insights through the design and delivery of actionable analytic solutions.
Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Review and improve existing predictive models
  • Profiling and analyzing source system data to determine data relationships, design constructs, consistency and quality to identify data for modeling purposes
  • Providing subject matter expertise and assisting with issue/incident management for production analytics issues or issues where production analytics are experiencing problems;
  • Preparing and transforming data for analytics;
  • Identify and capture lessons learned, best practices, and information gained during performance of tasks.
  • Developing white papers, analyses, and position papers either describing/reviewing /analyzing specific issues or providing justification or support for particular positions;
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or a related scientific or technical discipline with at least 3+ years of experience
  • 1+ years of experience using SAS data analytical tools; alternately using R/R Studio or SPSS
  • Performed duties as a team leader or higher
  • Must have critical-thinking analytical skills with a focus on problem-solving, numeric reasoning, and creativity with the ability to dynamically adjust the solution based on actual corporate data
  • Must be able communicate highly effectively to a diverse audience and articulate data analytic solutions effectively
  • Exposure to extracting and summarizing data from a variety of data source types
  • Ability to learn and implement new and different data science techniques
  • Good team player, able to manage multiple assignments, and adapt to changing client needs
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present business leaders
  • Must be able to obtain a Position of Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting
Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous Department of Veterans Affairs experience
  • Experience with one or more modeling and simulation techniques such as Monte Carlo or others
  • Oracle SQL or Informatica experience for data extraction and aggregation
  • Experience with many of the SAS analytic tools: Base SAS, SAS/STAT, SAS/GRAPH, Enterprise Business Intelligence, SAS/OR, Enterprise Guide, Enterprise Miner, Text Miner, SAS/IML, and SAS/ACCESS for Oracle
  • Experience developing dashboards and graphical analytics with Tableau or similar Data Visualization tool
