Network Telecom Engineer

Network and Telecom Engineer:

We are working with a NonProfit organization located in the south suburbs of Chicago. They are currently looking to add to their IT staff including a Network Telecom Engineer. This person will be working on a small IT team and be the main point of contact for Network and Telecom related projects and issues. The ideal candidate will be able and willing to help out in other areas, when neccessary. 

Responsibilities:
  • Provides implementation and operational support for network, firewall and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Participates in IT projects as required and manages IT projects involving the network / telecom environment.
  • Assists with data/voice network and upcoming network projects. 
  • Generates and maintains infrastructure support documentation.
  • Performs hardware installation, maintenance and upgrades coordinating with staff and vendors according to Change Control process.
  • Responsible for timely resolution of issues.
  • Effective and positive interaction with customers, internal staff and support vendors.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, standard practices and procedures.
  • Adapt to rapidly changing technology.
  • Effectively document all incidents and requests using a ticketing system.
  • Complete tasks with minimal direction.
  • Considerable initiative and judgment required.
  • Office environment.  May require occasional travel to branch or alternate locations.
Required Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience with the design, configuration and deployment of voice and data networks including LAN, MAN, WAN, VOIP,TDM PBX, circuits, Cisco routers, Cisco switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, proxy, CSU/DSU and other network infrastructure devices.
  • Experience with IP-based phone system / voicemail management and support.
  • Experience with the implementation and support of wireless LAN technologies.
  • Familiarity with secure configuration of network services such as DNS, WINS, SSH, SNMP, FTP as well as patch management.
  • Previous work experience in a "service desk” solution involving ticketing software, SLO/SLA and metric analysis.
  • Full understanding of IPv4 subnetting/routing and firewall management.
  • Experience with a WAN environment utilizing MPLS and site-to-site VPN.
  • Experience with various network management and notification tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related technical field is desired, but the equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Individual should be capable of lifting 50 lbs.
Experience with the following would be a plus:
  • Experience with the managing third party WAN management services
  • Experience with Sophos firewalls
  • Experience with Meraki Access Points
  • Experience with a hosted phone system
  • Experience with SAN design
  • Experience with Windows Server environment utilizing Active Directory and RADIUS authentication.
