JOB SUMMARY
Grid Control and Connectivity is responsible for best in class electricity Distribution Automation and Wireless Communication products and solutions for the worldwide Smart Grid.  Included in this position is the support of embedded web software in multiple devices. In this position, you will report to the Manager -  Software Development in Chicago.
 
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Developing or contributing to the development of project schedules, task and project completion time estimates, detailed software specifications and test plans.
  • Conducting and/or managing all necessary development work pertinent to software design including, architecture design, specifications, analysis, design, implementation, testing and related documentation.
  • Developing, debugging and supporting web applications running on embedded Android OS.
  • Developing, debugging and supporting microcontroller programs using C on a Microchip platform.
  • Working with product managers to assure product designs meet the requirements of the market.
  • Working with application engineers to resolve software related customer issues
  • Working collaboratively with software and testing engineers to deliver reliable, mission critical embedded software.
 
To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:
  • Ten years of experience in the design and development of embedded web applications to customers at scale including experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Embedded webpages for monitoring and configuration of industrial controls
    • Electric grid automation and/or control for utility applications
    • Using Android web based systems for IoT data collection
  • BS degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or demonstrated equivalent. MS degree in Computer Science preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the design, coding, testing, verification, validation and support of embedded web servers for industrial controllers, preferably for electric utility grid distribution automation and/or communications.
  • Strong knowledge of development in Java and JavaScript for an Android environment.
  • Experience developing, debugging and supporting embedded Android web applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to write robust, maintainable, and extensible code within existing coding standards.
  • Strong hands-on debugging capability on hardware; strong system level integration ability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time with rare periods lasting more than a week.
  • To select this job as one of interest to you, it is preferable to in addition have the following:
    • Experience with the HTTP2 module in Microchip TCP/IP Stack or similar a plus.
    • Experience with Selenium a plus.
    • Experience with Wireshark a plus.
    • Experience with C, C#, and/or C++ a plus.
 
Relevant Experience Required:
Ten years of experience in the design and development of real-time, mission critical embedded controller software.
