Job Description:
The Principal Solutions Architect will be part of a development team, which will have responsibilities for designing and developing effective software solutions to meet business requirements. Successful candidates must be able comfortable working in a "matrix-type” structure with relatively little initial guidance.
An ideal candidate has a strong technology background and a desire to grow, learn and explore.
The position requires design, implementation, integration and maintenance of various software subsystems and the goal of the job is to ensure that all features are delivered to support the vision and strategies. The Principal Solutions Architect is responsible for the quality of the product being developed, and for the preservation of the process for the entire team. (S)he will be involved in both supporting the team to build a product that brings value to our client and in verifying that the product works as expected.
Ideal candidates possess the ability to work independently and as a team member of a high-performance delivery team. The Principal Solutions Architect is expected to influence, share, communicate with and coach others. A "self-starter” approach to tackle a range of issues is essential.
Responsibilities
  • Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Produce a solution that meets the needs of stakeholders given the resource constraints
  • Optimize the use of internal and external resources
  • Collaborate extensively within the team including those outside the applicable specialty
  • Share all information including "work in progress”
  • Coach others in the applicable skills and experience
  • Estimate the delivery of the business requirements
  • Expand technical knowledge and skills outside of the existing specialty
  • Validate work as early as possible, working with others to do so
  • Attend co-ordination meetings in person or through other means if not collocated
  • Proactively look for ways to improve team performance
  • Develop designs, layouts and documentation to identify requirements and solutions
  • Write well-designed, testable code
  • Produce specifications and determine operational feasibility
  • Integrate software components into a fully functional software system
  • Develop software verification plans and assurance procedures
  • Document and maintain software functionality
  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing systems
  • Deploy programs and evaluate user feedback
  • Comply with project plans and standards
Required Skills:
  • 10+ years of professional software development / hands-on consultancy experience
  • Strong coding, debugging and problem-solving skills  
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming language paradigms
  • Great communication skills to collaborate cross-group and work effectively within the team  
  • Experience in developing large scale services
  • Demonstrated deep, broad and practical Solutions Engineering expertise with solid engineering fundamentals
  • Deep and practical understanding as well as significant and fresh hands-on development experience in various key cloud and data engineering technologies and emerging trends. For example: containers and orchestration, high scale data pipelines, distributed systems (for example blockchain), microservices, hybrid / multi-cloud systems, DevOps, machine learning, computer vision and/or IoT
  • Proven record of leading delivery of complex software projects
  • Excellent skills for mentoring and coaching other Solutions Engineers
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with high impact results
  • Exceptional decision-making skills, conflict resolution, and follow through
  • Expertise in web or mobile application development  
  • Expertise in relational databases, distributed systems and/or big data technologies
  • Good understanding of various software development methodologies e.g. Scrum, Kanban, extreme programming (XP), Lean, etc.
  • Good interpersonal skills and work with diverse personality types
  • Good presentation skills and ability to convey ideas and material to coworkers and business partners
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
  • Self-confidence to be assertive when taking a position and constructively resolve differences and build consensus among partners
