Position Purpose:
A global financial firm is hiring in Chicago, IL candidate will be a hybrid software/ data engineer to join their Enterprise Data Team. As a member of the Enterprise Data Team you will assist in building out the next generation of infrastructure to help drive our digital transformation. Our infrastructure focuses on real-time services, the movement of data across the group and providing key data which is critical to market insights and operational efficiency measured in milliseconds. You will partner with all aspects of the business, sales, traders and operations to understand and quantify opportunities, inefficiencies and workflow obstacles. The groups goal is to develop intuitive and relevant answers to optimize our decision making and convert data-driven insights into action by embedding those analytics into simple front-line workflow tools. The successful candidate is a self-starter and must be comfortable working as a front-office developer in a high pressure, challenging role with a focus on solving business problems via technology in a fast changing environment: time to market is critical, but without compromising on quality or performance.
Skills and Traits we are looking for:
  • Masters Degree PLUS 1-2 years working experience or equivalent.
  • Expertise in batch and real-time data flow design.
  • Familiar with the FIX Protocol.
  • Kafka,Streamsets, RabbitMQ, C#, Java, Node.js and Javascript a plus.
  • Understanding of Micro-services and Event Driven Architecture.
  • Comfortable with leveraging Relational, NoSql and Time-series persistence stores including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, HDInsight, Hive, Hadoop, Elastic Search, Mongo DB, Redis, and Influx DB.
  • A general sense of the latest platforms/projects within the open source community.
  • Considers themselves an engineer with a depth and appreciation to the intricacies of developing high frequency/low latency applications.
  • Broad understanding of a variety of lightweight processes including agile, lean startup/enterprise, and DevOps approaches to drive and deliver quality fast with an eye toward innovation.
  • Solid understanding of application program interfaces (APIs) and real-time messaging software.
  • Comfortable with both Windows and Linux/Unix environments.
  • You have solid computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, programming languages, distributed systems, and information retrieval.
