Hadoop Administrator

Pay Rate : $ 55.00 - 85.00 /Hour
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintaining, monitoring, operating and developing distributed computing infrastructures targeted at Big Data processing and based on open source distributions
  • Maintaining, monitoring, operating and enhancing software components and workflows targeted at data ingestion and processing
  • Designing, prototyping, and delivering Big Data platform solutions to support product teams
  • Ensuring the platform is running as effective as it can through performance monitoring and tuning
  • Creating processes and tools to enhance scalability, availability, management and maintainability of our systems
  • Available for on-call (team rotation) to support the platform and its users.
  • Participate in the decision-making process to improve the current and next generation hardware and software systems
  • Collaborating with stakeholders through on-going product and platform releases, to solve existing needs, identify exciting opportunities and predict future challenges

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other technical discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years related experience
  • Recent & relevant operations experience with Hadoop, Kafka, Cassandra, Hive, Storm and/or Spark in an "at-scale " or "production " setting. Simply said, more than tutorial experience. You've installed some of these technologies and then used them in products or research.
  • Experience in Linux based systems including the ability to create and maintain shell scripts
  • A working understanding of the compute, storage & networking needs big data frameworks require and benefit from
  • Strong understanding of one of the following languages: Java, Python, Scala, etc
  • Distributed systems specialization is a plus
  • Passionate about creating great technology products, always looking for creative & innovative solutions to meet or exceed user needs
  • Strong technical aptitude with an intense desire to learn new skills and industry trends
  • Flexibility to understand and efficiently troubleshoot complex distributed systems
  • Proficiency in English, written and spoken; ability to communicate with clarity and precision
  • Self-starter with self-initiative and direction, leadership skills
  • Available for on-call (team rotation) to support the platform and its users
