Position Description

We are looking for a forward-thinking, action-oriented, and hands-on Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to drive the vision, implementation, and development of an innovative, high-performing information technology team. Utilize software and sophisticated mathematical models to manage and report on client portfolios. Technology is a core part of our business, and the CTO will be instrumental in driving our capabilities to the next level.

Functional Responsibilities


The CTO will be responsible for pro-active management, leadership, and support of our IT team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Strategic IT planning and execution

Resource planning, budget, and allocation on an annual and a monthly basis

Software development, buy versus build analysis, and system integration and implementation

Technology operations, including network operations, support, and helpdesk

Enterprise data architecture and optimization

Information security and cybersecurity

Program and project management

Vendor due diligence, selection, and oversight

Implementation of IT policies and procedures, ensuring pass rates on all audit results

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day leadership and management of the IT team to support and champion mission and values, both internally and externally, safeguarding the superior client experience that is known for.

Define and execute a strategy for IT that both stabilizes the existing environment and provides a scalable foundation to pro-actively evolve it in line with projected business growth (assets under management, number of accounts and intermediaries).

Lead the execution of the IT road map, including communication, metrics, and working with stakeholders on requirements, deliverables, milestones, and budgets.

Manage the implementation of our reporting and analytics systems to identify issues and evaluate performance, as well as drive decisions across the organization.

Assume leadership, coordination, management, budget responsibility, and ongoing due diligence of technology vendors and service providers.

Implement and regularly test a robust Business Continuity Plan—covering pro-active identification of emerging and existing infrastructure-, data-, and cybersecurity-related risks—that supports the growth of the business and meets regulatory and audit requirements.

Required Skills/Experience

The right candidate will have experience in the following areas:

Running a broad-based information technology function within an investment and/or asset management company. Includes responsibility for managing and supporting a team of developers, management of software and systems architecture, implementation of critical enterprise internal projects and platforms, management of IT vendors, and a key role in the firm's strategic planning.

Strong experience with custom software development and implementation, managing software development teams, including onshore/offshore development teams.

Scaling systems, network, and technology infrastructure involving significant growth and development of people, processes, and systems.

Proven ability to build high-performing teams and motivate people, instill accountability, and achieve results in a rapidly changing environment.

Creating, justifying, and managing budgets and resource allocations.

Bachelor's degree in computer science. Master's degree preferred.

Desirable Competencies/Qualifications

10+ years of hands-on experience meeting deliverables, being accountable to the business, and implementing complex solutions to financial services organizations, with a background in development and engineering.

7+ years of experience managing and scaling onshore and offshore development teams, preferably using agile development processes.

Focus on development and improvement of technology products and services to support continuous evolution of an increasingly competitive and profitable firm.

Experienced and respected manager, with the talent to address difficult issues honestly, directly, constructively, and kindly, as well as an ability to prioritize and make difficult decisions.

Understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses and experience in complementing them within a team.

High levels of humility and integrity.
