IT Support Specialist

We are working with a global technology firm who is headquartered in the northern burbs of Chicago. They are currently looking for an IT Support Specialist to join a small team. This team supports and maintains the company's servers, user workstations, printers, barcode scanners, wireless client devices, laptops, docking stations, monitors and other peripherals. Provide end- user support for all software utilized by the company.
Job Functions:
  • Maintain servers (software, upgrades, and applications) / review log files to ensure reliability & protection of data.
  • Management & maintenance of VMWare server cluster, as well as virtual servers contained within. Assist with planning and provisioning of new virtual systems as needed.
  • Build & Maintain a Windows Active Directory environment
  • Office 365 & SharePoint management & administration
  • Manage & maintain all end-user workstations, laptops and peripherals for all North American company locations and for remote sales employees. Ensure all client software is up to date and functioning optimally.
  • Provide back-up support for the company's Cisco Call Manager
  • Provide end-user support for all company applications and technology assets. Assist with training of users on systems / processes and general computing best practices.
  • Execute IT related procedures for newly hired or terminated employees.
  • Manage daily backups & logs in accordance with the company's disaster recovery plan. Follow outlined audit procedures to ensure backups are recoverable within specified window.
  • Support global IT teams as required to maintain business systems in use elsewhere within the organization.
  • Manage & monitor Kaspersky anti-virus to ensure all company computers & servers are updated & protected.
  • Maintain the IT asset database, work with accounting staff to ensure all assets are capitalized and accounted for at all times.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement a desktop maintenance plan.
  • Recommend, schedule and perform network, desktop and server upgrades, improvements and repairs.
  • Assess, debug and resolve hardware/technical problems associated with desktops, servers and critical systems.
  • Support continuous improvement by researching new technologies / techniques to improve business processes and efficiency.
  • Prioritize and adjust work schedule to support a 24x7 manufacturing organization.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
  • Experience with Windows Active Directory, VMWare, Linux & Windows Servers
  • To perform this job successfully the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Associates or Technical degree or equivalent work experience required. Bachelor's degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Windows and Desktop Support, VMWare, Active Directory/DNS/DHCP & Windows Server / Client Operating systems administration
  • Proficient knowledge of Windows and computer hardware, working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint & Excel).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills are essential.
Skills that would be desirable but not required:
  • SQL server management and/or development skills
  • Certifications and/or experience supporting Cisco VOIP and/or Cisco WAN networking
  • Experience with Citrix administration
  • Experience using Tableau or other Business Intelligence / analytics tools
