We are working with one of the top HF/LL Prop shops in NYC who is looking for a Senior Unix Engineer to build, improve, and manage their trading platforms.
The ideal candidate will work at the kernel level and know all things Linux/Unix. Prior financial services experience is not necessary!
Responsibilities
The Senior Unix Engineer will be responsible for:
  • Working closely with both the technology and business units to ensure the timely collection, analysis and implementation of requirements in a Linux-based infrastructure
  • Contributing to the systems architecture by using his/her extensive background in x86 Server platforms
  • Assisting support engineers with triage, and ticket resolution for tickets involving kernel stack traces
  • Architecting and building a next-generation Linux platform to drive our trading platforms
  • Proposing and implementing new tools, methods, and performance analytics
  • Tracking upstream kernel development and developing patches for relevant improvements and fixes
  • Developing and deploying automated solutions in support of standard operational processes
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate will have:
  • At least 5 years of experience with Linux kernel internals, with a focus on process scheduling, kernel bypass, hardware and software interfaces
  • Exceptional understanding of networking and experience with base TCP/IP protocols and other protocol stacks
  • Knowledge of hardware and computer architecture, as well as compilers, debuggers and runtime environments
  • Experience working with developing code for integrating complex hardware into products
  • Demonstrated performance analytics skills, data gathering, mining and visualization
  • Experience in testing and release automation
  • Prior working experience with distributed systems, especially containers orchestrators such as Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, Mesos is a plus
  • Proficiency and significant experience in C and shell scripting, C++ and python is a plus
  • Upstream involvement in open source projects (patches submitted for upstream inclusion) is a plus
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering or a related field
