Application Support Engineer

Job Summary:
  • Respond to incidents and service requests; perform troubleshooting, resolution and/or escalation, as necessary. Deploy OS images, applications, and desktop environment modifications using packages and scripts.
  • Perform general PC break/fix and troubleshooting of OS, trading, productivity, and custom apps.
  • Excellent analytical, logical, interpersonal, communication and organization skills combined with a keen attention to detail and customer focus.
  • Proven ability to consistently deliver high-quality service and support in a fast paced financial-services environment as an individual and as part of a team.
  • Ability to take initiative and work through a problem independently. Must be flexible on hours and shifts and occasional weekend work.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Receive and respond to incoming phone calls, tickets, and e-mail requests for support.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot workstations, printers, peripherals, and related hardware and software.
  • Write technical procedures for configuration and deployment of hardware, software and related products.
  • Perform analysis of application problems and recommend and implement corrective solutions as needed.
  • Test, deploy, and maintain packages, batch files, and scripts for the desktop environment.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and network admins to ensure efficient operation of the desktop computing environment.
  • Perform move, add, and change requests as they are submitted by line managers.
  • Provide operational support and administration for various application servers and systems as necessary.
  • Accurately document support activities and produce reports and metrics for management.
  • Research, evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies.
  • Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning to meet future needs.

Required Qualifications:
  • Expert knowledge of windows operating systems and productivity software (MS Office).
  • Strong knowledge of common market data applications and related infrastructure (Bloomberg, Reuters).
  • Working knowledge of one or more scripting languages, VBA, and Excel macros.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, group policy, and windows server hardware and software.
  • Working knowledge of networking protocols, Internet technologies, and standards.
  • Able to conduct independent research by reading knowledgebase articles, manuals, and procedure documents.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong customer-service orientation
  • Self-motivated and directed, able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience with VMware/virtualization, WYSE thin clients, or workstation blades all a big plus.
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint/IIS a plus.
  • 2+ years supporting a trading floor or other financial services environment a plus
