Senior Desktop Engineer

Position Summary: The Senior Desktop Engineer is responsible for the Microsoft Windows end-user environment; from design through implementation, including architecture, imaging, configuration, deployment planning and support of Windows operating systems in conjunction with daily IT Support Services operations and projects, as well as developing and maintaining a multiyear technology roadmap in the areas of desktop and laptop technologies.

Essential Functions:
  • System Architecture: Engineer, maintain and update the organization's standard Windows images and software load-sets. Function as subject expert for desktop/laptop hardware versioning. Responsible for end-to-end ownership of new technology implementations including assessment, identification, testing, deployment, and documentation of standard desktop and laptop hardware and software technologies
  • System Deployment: Perform imaging of new and reclaimed assets utilizing Microsoft SCCM development and enterprise client management and Windows Deployment Services. Coordinate with IT Support Services to configure and deploy imaged systems to staff based on user prerequisites. Ensure systems are correctly imaged, fully functional and deployed to staff in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
  • System Support/Administration: Conduct software release and patch management utilizing software management and deployment tools. Provide tier 3 support based upon personal experience and standard operating procedures for issues that cannot be resolved by the IT Support Desk. Perform Windows system administrative support which includes adding and removing users, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware and software, monitoring systems and network activity.
  • Departmental Support: Perform product analysis to develop recommendations for technology solutions. Provide thought leadership to senior IT management; recommending technical architectures for the various computing needs and configurations of the organization. Review internal knowledge databases and procedural documents for accuracy and consistency; document processes/solutions to ensure optimized work and process flows exist. Works independently or as a member of a team in a variety of roles from providing assistance to assuming task leadership.
  • IT Department inventory: Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory controls; monitoring and sustaining inventory to ensure product availability at all locations. Support the documentation of IT equipment; update inventory records to maintain accuracy and requesting additional equipment through procurement process; providing justification when required.
  • Other duties and projects as may be assigned or requested.

Qualifications/Required Skills:
  • Minimum of five years' experience with imaging and migrating Windows operating systems. Experience with SCCM development and enterprise client management, Windows Deployment Services, and Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
  • Experience with Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) 2012.
  • Must have a minimum of four years' experience with Dell computers (enterprise model laptop and desktop) and software applications; including Microsoft operating systems (Windows XP and Windows 7), MS Office 2007 and 2010, Exchange email, Backup and Recovery, Sophos SafeGuard Encryption, Symantec Endpoint Protection, performance monitoring, log analysis, etc.
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)/Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST)/ Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)/Windows 7 certifications preferred.
  • Strong professional and interpersonal skills including creative problem solving, effective written and verbal communications, planned and organized coordination of cross functional teams, acute attention to detail and quality. Must be courteous and efficient when handling and resolving complaints. Experience providing support in a global company with multiple office locations a plus.
  • Must be self-motivated and flexible to accommodate changes in business strategies; driven with the ability to self-manage in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
