The Director – Human Resources provides both strategic and tactical administrative and technical support to the HR function. This support extends to both the Washington, DC Headquarters staff as well as our seven global regions.   Reporting directly to and working closely with the Vice President – Human Resources, this role will be charged with changing the landscape of the organization by introducing progressive programs in employee benefits and in building a strategy to more effectively Attract & Retain Talent.
The candidate should have a broad background as an HR generalist, with proven experience in a variety of areas including Employee Benefits, Payroll Administration, Recruiting, Retention, Performance Management, Coaching & Training, Rewards Strategies and Compliance & Policy.  Previous experience with Health Benefits and Retirement plans is a must.
  • Prior experience developing and implementing metrics to measure HR productivity and effectiveness
  • History of transforming HR from a transaction-based focus to one of a partner and business enabler to the business community
  • Demonstrated success in creating and promoting an employer brand in the market and establishing an organization as an "employer of choice”
  • Experience designing and implementing progressive benefits strategies targeted at attracting and retaining key talent
  • Successful track record building proactive programs in areas such as recruiting, diversity, performance reviews, compensation, payroll, and using HRIS systems
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Support day-to-day Human Resource functions for a staff of 3-7 HR professionals and interns
  • Perform duties under minimal supervision, escalating most serious issues to senior management. Interprets and allocates resources to support strategic goals
  • Responsible for driving performance management, development and reporting and analytics associated with these critical functions to assist in reducing turnover and managing a high performing workforce
  • Ability to assess risk and develop Human Resource plans and programs to mitigate liability and ensure operational success
  • Oversee the development of yearly objectives and development of action plans to achieve objectives
  • Responsible for compliance with Employment laws and Human Resource policies, practices, and standards
  • Drive the employee recruitment process.   Develop strategy for effectively securing quality resources.  Work to improve company reputation in the area and establish SOI as an employer of choice 
  • Hands-on and proactive involvement in all SOI hires, ensuring that new personnel are a solid fit for the organization.  Create and implements a new "employee journey” beginning with the hiring process
  • Manage and administer all SOI benefit programs (e.g. health, dental, life & AD&D, pension, retirement, employee assistance, flexible spending accounts, LTD, supplemental life, vision, legal resources, etc.)
  • Serve as primary liaison with benefit vendors/representatives
  • Assure all plans are legally compliant and that required documents, notices, and filings (e.g. Summary Plan Descriptions, 5500's, non-discrimination testing) are completed accurately and on time
  • Oversee the annual audit for the retirement plan and assures all required documentation is provided
  • Partner with the Vice President – Human Resources on Employee Benefits strategy and annual benefits renewals to recommend new or improved benefit plans and cost saving measures
  • Administer annual open enrollment
Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in HR or related field
  • 7-10+ years working in HR department
  • Proven Leadership experience managing a minimum of 4 HR staff
Desired Qualifications:  
  • Prior use of UtliPro HRIS System a plus
  • Experience with web based performance management systems
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite of applications
