Linux Administrator (Washington, D.C.)

Responsibilities
  • Configuration and management of Red Hat (RHEL) servers in AWS
  • Create multiple Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) for Development, Test, Staging, and Production and a separate Management VPC to manage the other 4 VPCs.
  • Define and implement security policies, such as access control lists, to each of the VPCs and subnets.
  • Administer and configure Red Hat AMI instances and AWS environments and VPC networks
  • Assist in creation, installation, and setup of a DevOps environment
  • Design and implement backup and recovery strategies and provide technical assistance as needed
  • Facilitate the transition from legacy to modern applications
  • Setup and maintain AWS-maintained logs and monitoring
  • Compose and leverage AWS CloudFormation Templates (or similar technology) for utilization, to ensure repeatable, sustainable AWS infrastructure is effectively managed
  • Configure multi-factor authentication
  • Create IAM users and groups
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customer and other contractors in order to conduct system administration activities
  • Provide input and support to the cloud architect
  • Develop standard operating procedures where applicable for services and systems
  • Maintain server functionality (data, application, network) during the modernization process
  • Review technical system artifacts for completeness, consistency and compliance to standards
  • Create and maintain relevant documentation

Qualifications
*Must have or be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance

Required Experience:
  • Three (3) or more years of experience with Red Hat (RHEL) Linux administration
  • Two (2) or more years of experience with AWS Cloud or Cloud engineering
  • Solid understanding of Linux operating system
  • Knowledge of configuring VPC networking
  • Knowledge of IAM role configurations & AWS S3
  • Experience with DevOps tools
  • Proven collaborative abilities
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Experience:
  • Expertise in data administration such as: RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server) and XML
  • Experience with CloudFormation, Terraform and/or Ansible
  • Experience with Logstash, Elasticsearch and Kibana
  • Experience with DevOps pipelines, Jenkins, Ansible and automation processes
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills

Education and Training:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent/relevant advanced degree preferred
  • AWS Certification preferred
