The Director of Storage Engineering will help the firm deliver safe, secure, reliable, and high-speed data and storage and database management capabilities.  In this role you will drive the continuous development and improvement of this global enterprise data storage environment for all business units.  You will work within the broader Engineering team to provide world-class team development and management, innovative thought leadership, and drive functional change into the environment, this role helps navigate the Bank through a the continuously changing storage technology environment.
 
What will you do?
  • Deliver projects, platform or service analysis, design, and build on storage (e.g., SAN, NAS, Object) technologies as well as database technologies (e.g. SQL, Oracle, DB2) as necessary in a self-motivated manner and consistent with Engineering Release Plan and project deliverables
  • Collaborate with T&O stakeholders, providing advice and assistance to coordinate and operationalize the integrated strategic and operational plans for innovative technologies, methodologies and processes
  • Manage the implementation of  an Object-store based, cloud-compatible storage model that supports multiple types of service clusters, e.g., IaaS, PaaS, DBaaS, etc. 
  • Drive benchmarking exercises to ensure RBC IT remains within the top tier of best practices.
  • Responsible for technical solutions that meet the needs of our business units in a cost efficient manner.
  • Prioritize, drive, and validate strategies and roadmaps for storage services, platforms, and technologies
  • Develop and position key change communication messages ensuring a consistent voice for the change mandate, partnering with leaders to drive the change agenda
  • Set strategic direction for storage product and service development that achieves differentiation and enhances overall service improvements and profitability in line with strategic business goals
  • Partner with broader Engineering leadership to set the overall strategic roadmap for current- and next-generation (Hyperscale) storage products including reviewing and approving product development initiatives and priorities, conducting SWOT analyses and proactively recommending opportunities for cross-function collaboration
  • Participate in developing Strategic Roadmap for Next Generation Infrastructure
  • Own multiple services, platforms, or product development across all technology domains; be principal advisor and technical coach to owners of multiple domains; key technical thought leader for Engineering
  • Scan the external environment for trends and potential disrupters, developing a body of knowledge and providing summary reports to the leadership team with recommendations for further review or action
  • Accountable for building a world-class team, and helping partners develop their world-class teams
 
 
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
  • Minimum 10 overall experience
  • Demonstrated experience at delivering Design Engineering, Systems Integration & Porting, Testing, Solutions & Enterprise Architecture i.e. full-scale SAN design for multi-petabyte environment with detailed knowledge of speeds, protocols, trade-offs, and leading vendors, products, or architectures.  
  • Demonstrated management: Experience managing teams to deliver significantly changed infrastructures, e.g., FCAL to FCIP fabric conversions.
  • College degree or highly relevant experience preferred; technical certification in storage technology preferred; expert mastery of technology domains
  • Demonstrated knowledge of 2 or more leading storage platforms, e.g., EMC, Hitachi, Client (3PAR).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles of Software Defined Storage and Hyperconverged systems, e.g., Nutanix or SDS controllers. 
  • Demonstrated experience at providing persistence services in cloud-based environments and leading toolsets
  • Experience working with Oracle Databases, some SQL, DB2 and Postgres
