IT Operations Support Engineer 

Job Summary:
Provide the day to day IT Operations support for the firm with primary focus on network/telecom and OS server administration. This Operations support engineer will be responsible for the implementation, deployment, maintenance, and support of firm's computer networks, telecommunications networks, and related security devices. Help manage and maintain all Windows/Linux/VMware systems to insure maximum uptime and help resolve L2/L3 operations issues. Automate and improve process efficiencies to run a more effective IT Operations.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Support production processes on daily basis. Daily and overnight operations support primarily for network, firewall, telecommunications and other areas of enterprise services such as Windows/LINUX servers L1/L2 OS troubleshooting and support. VMWare and Commvault backup operations knowledge is nice to have.
  • Open and manage cases with vendors
  • Diagnose and resolve Windows/LINUX/VMWare server systems, network connectivity, firewall, switches, routers failures and proxy access issues
  • Work with our Affiliates (London and Tokyo) to resolve global issues with Var system
  • Recommend and implement corrective solutions as needed, with a strong focus on automation
  • Implements, manages, monitors, supports, and troubleshoots connections to external entities, including connections to the Internet, market data providers, business partners, vendors, and other divisions of firm's Securities
  • Manages vendor relationships and creates purchase orders for new equipment and services
  • Strives to ensure that all systems achieve 100% uptime during and outside of business hours
  • Creates and maintains written documentation and diagrams for supported systems
  • Experience with sniffers, network port analyzers, punch-down tools and general data center plant, including the installation of equipment in racks, power, cooling and cabling. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Travels between New York and NJ offices on an as-needed basis and provides support off-hours and remotely (i.e., from home) when needed
  • Provide operational support and administration for various enterprise systems as necessary
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in IT or equivalent
  • Ability to multitask several ongoing issues. This involves the ability to assess priority and make appropriate decisions quickly and effectively.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of network, windows and Linux server hardware and software
  • Working technical knowledge of current protocols, operating systems, and standards.
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong architecture and technical support/trouble shooting skills.
