Operations Support Engineer

Our client is  looking for a hands-on operations engineer to help build and manage their next generation video conferencing and web application SaaS platform.
Their team is a combination of start-up veterans and experienced enterprise software engineers.  They are agile, believe in continuous integration and automation, and ship meaningful features to customers every two weeks.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain 24/7 SaaS application including core operating system, networking, applications, storage, database and telephony (SIP & H.323) audio / video conferencing platform.
  • Software deployment and configuration management in development, QA and production environments.
  • Level 2/3 support for production issues.
  • Oversee vendors providing support and hosting for multiple co-lo sites.
  • Partner with internal software development teams to ensure new installs meet quality and operational requirements.
  • Develop tools and utilities in support of operations and development teams.
  • Must understand complex technical issues; possess excellent troubleshooting and follow-up skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Provide technical expertise with system upgrades, process improvements, security requirements, infrastructure improvements, etc.
  • Preventive maintenance services during regularly scheduled maintenance windows following defined Change Management processes and procedures
  • Work to help design and build from the ground up reliable infrastructure services in AWS, integrate applications and services into the AWS environment and ensure ongoing support
  • Gain deep application-level knowledge of the systems as well as contribute to overall design.
  • Work closely with internal team to build security, reliability, and scalability into the development lifecycle.
Skills and Knowledge
  • 5-8 years of experience in an operations role, including direct relevant experience with Systems Administration using Virtualization (Xen), Linux (Ubuntu)
  • Solid knowledge and interest in working with and deploying services and applications in AWS and knowledge of various AWS services including Route53, EC2, VPC, ELB, RDS,etc.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills
  • Hands on experience with software administration with fundamental knowledge with Apache, Tomcat, MySQL, Java, NodeJS
  • Experience with network management and monitoring, specifically configuration of platforms and protocols such as Nagios, SNMP and custom APIs.
  • Experience in security concepts (PKI, key/cert exchanges, etc), systems and protocols (SSH, HTTPS, SSL, TLS, etc).
  • Experience in infrastructure management automation / DevOps (Chef)

  • Strong troubleshooting skills

  • Engineering or IT degree would be highly preferable
