Tucson VA Medical Center
The VA Medical Center located at Tucson Arizona is the "Flagship” for the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS), which serves over 170,000 veterans located in eight counties in Southern Arizona and one county in Western New Mexico. This 277-bed hospital provides training, primary care and sub-specialty health care in numerous medical areas for eligible Veterans.

REQUIREMENTS (duties include but are not limited to)
  • Examine, evaluate, diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders in a variety of settings.
  • Obtain and evaluate data through interview techniques.
  • Prepare and review case histories.
  • Prescribe and evaluate effectiveness of a wide range of therapeutic measures.
  • Recommend disposition of psychiatric cases.
  • Serve as medical and psychiatric consultant to clinical psychologists, clinical social workers and others as required.
  • Advise on kind and quantity of psychiatric supplies and equipment.
  • Active member of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team.
  • Coordinate direct patient care with base agencies, the Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Healthcare System
  • (SAVAHCS), Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center, local facilities, and military commanders.
  • Perform medical exams, reviews, and conduct appropriate military specific documentation such as, but not limited to, narrative medical summaries for Medical Evaluation Boards, medical profiles, etc.
  • Contribute to the training experience of mental health technicians.
  • Maintain accurate and current notes in both the mental health records of all patients seen
  • Consult with medical personnel, legal authorities and military commands as appropriate
  • Completion of residency or fellowship in psychiatry acceptable to the Surgeon general, Headquarters United States Air Force.
  • Possess board certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Association.
  • Must have at least 24 months of experience within the last 36 months as a Psychiatrist.
  • Possess and maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
  • Possess current unrestricted license in one of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
