Fort Bragg
Fort Bragg is a major United States Army installation located near Fayetteville but also borders the towns of Spring Lake and Southern Pines. It was also a census-designated place in the 2010 Census, during which a population of 39,457 was identified. The fort is named for Confederate general Braxton Bragg. It covers over 251 square miles (650 km2). It is the home of the US Army airborne forces and Special Forces, as well as U.S. Army Forces Command and U.S. Army Reserve Command.

REQUIREMENTS (duties include but not limited to)
  • Physician Assistant performing services must have sufficent training and experience to be able to adquately perform credentialed medical procedures to include, but not limited to the following:
    • Ensure that drugs are stored properly and that adequate records are maintained, to include records of controlled substances classified as such by the Controlled Substance Act (Title II of the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970), and/or those designated by the MEDCEN commander as locally controlled drugs.
    • Store, secure, and dispense or dispose drugs in accordance with JC standards and state requirements.
    • Maintain all records as required.
    • Using the CHCS for keeping records, ordering of ancillary procedures, ordering of medications, entering orders, and performing other required patient record functions.
    • Universal Precautions: Adhering to the Centers for Disease Control Guidelines concerning universal precautions and the military treatment facility Infection Control Program at all times, while providing services under this contract.
    • Indicating responsibility for the contents and correctness of all prepared reports/forms by affixing his/her own signature to the documents and validating their contents.
    • Attending professional staff conferences/meetings and other appropriate professional activities as requested by the COR. Meetings will be held during scheduled work hours.
    • Comply with all safety requirements of the MTF and OSHA.
    • Prepare all records and reports as required in support of services rendered and as required by the MTF standard operating procedures, federal law or Army regulation.
    • Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance with policies and regulations of the MTF.
  • Must have sufficient experience to be able to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries, in the outpatient setting, in the full spectrum of ages, to include, but not limited to, the following: Skin, Head, Eyes, Ears, Nose, Throat, Neck, Pulmonary System, Gastrointestinal System, Musculoskeletal System, Genitourinary System, Reproductive System, Lymphatic System, Central Nervous System, Cardiovascular System, and Endocrine System.
  • Must have sufficient experience to be able to perform medical procedures to include, but not limited to, the following: Incision and Drainage; Secure and maintain an adequate airway; Nail Trephination; Local anesthesia; Bandaging of sprains, minor burns, and minor lacerations; Draw arterial blood gases for evaluation and interpret results; Suture simple lacerations; Remove sutures; Removal of foreign bodies as appropriate; Stabilize and evaluate cervical spine injuries as appropriate; Perform venous punctures for lab studies and interpret results; Splint and stabilize traumatic injuries to extremities; Administer intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous medications as appropriate; Secure and maintain adequate intravenous access by peripheral routes; Cryotherapy of begin skin lesions; Cultures (throat, wound), and Clearing of ears by flush technique.
  • Must have sufficient experience to be able to perform tasks to include, but not limited to, the following: Consult with consultants appropriately; Provide medical advice over the telephone; Complete all required paperwork; Perform administrative functions to include performing military physical examinations and Medical Evaluation Boards; Obtain an adequate history, physical, assessment and plan in a timely and appropriate manner on each patient and develop treatment plan; Utilize paraprofessional staff as appropriate; and Preliminarily interpret radiographs.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must maintain a current, active, valid and unrestricted license or authorizing document from any U.S. State, District of Columbia; or U.S. Territory or jurisdiction to provide health care within the scope of practice for a specific health care discipline.
  • Must have a current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certificate or Controlled Drug Substance number as appropriated.
  • Be a graduate of an educational accreditional by the Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation on behalf of the American Medical Association.
  • Be a graduate Physician Assistant (preferably, a residency trained Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant) qualified by academic and practical education to provide patient services as a physician extender under supervision of a physician.
  • Must have and maintain current certification in Basics Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as certified by the American Heart Association.
  • Have a minimum one (1) year of clinical experience in Family Medicine.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
