Elmendorf Air Force Base
Formerly known as Elmendorf Field, in 2010 it merged with nearby Fort Richardson to form Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. The 673rd Wing is JBER's host unit. As the largest and principle unit within the 11th AF, the 3rd Wing is tasked with providing air defense and air superiority in Alaska, as well as supporting Pacific Air Forces during contingencies in the Pacific Command area of responsibility.

The Family Advocacy Nurse (FAN) provides comprehensive home-based prevention services to families to prevent child and partner maltreatment. The FAN is responsible for remaining current in relevant areas of maternal/child and family violence nursing practice, and shall provide nursing home-based services that include education, support, and anticipatory guidance in such areas as growth and development across the life span, nutrition, parenting, attachment/bonding, individual and family health related issues, family violence dynamics, problem solving, family communication skills and bereavement.

REQUIREMENTS (duties include but are not limited to)
  • Provide case management for families prenatally and for families with children under the age of 3 years old.
  • Support team in preventing maltreatment.
  • Promote healthy relationships (attachment & bonding) and father involvement.
  • Conduct consultations, referrals, and home visitations to high risk families.
  • Counsel clients individually on health and nutrition topics.
  • Promote healthy pregnancy via education and support.
  • Via role modeling and education, assist parents in creating an interactive play environment.
  • Teach new mothers total care of their baby, general self-care, breast feeding, and postpartum care.
  • Community Health Education: Conduct education on Family Planning / immunization / infectious diseases / nutrition etc.
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  2. Two years' experience (within the last four years) as a Community Health Nurse and/or Maternal Child Health nursing, or direct experience in child abuse and/or domestic abuse.
  3. In-home visitation experience.
