REQUIREMENTS

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for meeting the medication and health education needs of clients receiving services in the Outpatient Services. The Nurse Practitioner also provides expert consultation and education to staff regarding medication and current health topics of concern to clients and direct care staff. The Nurse Practitioner will be a primary prescriber for consumers who need immediate psychiatric medication. The Psychiatric NP is part of a multidisciplinary team that provides quality behavioral care services. The team is composed of psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed mental health therapist, PMHNP and nursing. The psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will assess and treat mental illnesses through a combination of focused psychotherapy and medication.
  • Coordinate appropriate follow-up care, referrals, and case management.
  • Perform crisis interventions and medication management in emergency situations.
  • Develop and implement long and short range treatment plans.
  • Build effective partnerships and resource sharing networks with other medical and psychologist staff in the practice.
  • Serve as a resource in evaluation and management of psychiatric disorders for primary care staff.
  • Examines patient for symptoms of organic, congenital, or acquired disorders and determines nature and extent, performs comprehensive examinations, referring to diagnostic tests and utilizes medical instruments and equipment when appropriate.
  • Provide detailed and consistent medical information into the patient's electronic medical record utilizing the electronic patient record system.
  • Order and perform diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and interpret associated test results for deviations from normal baseline and provides follow up treatment plans.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
  • Actively participate in Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement activities and staff meetings.
  • Thrive in fast-paced and high-pressure environment, while balancing the individual client focus and need.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills and maintained a cooperative working relationship with others in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Collaborated with the team to facilitate the coordination of patient care at the unit level.
  • Through utilization of the nursing process, diagnosed and treated patient and family responses to documented or potential health problems.
  • Utilized clinical resources in implementing patient care and informing rationale for patient care decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have an advanced practice degree to include CRNP, MSN-FNP, PMHNP, or a similar degree.
  • Must be certified by the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) or by the ANA (American Nurses Association).
  • Must have an unrestricted state license
  • Must have prescriptive authority and DEA number or in the process of obtaining this.
  • Some prior experience in psychiatric and/or geriatric is preferred.
