Responsibilities (duties include but are not limited to)
The Contractor shall be responsible for any procedure that falls within the scope of perfusion and provide safe, effective, and appropriate cardiopulmonary bypass assistance in support of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Service.
  • Cardiopulmonary Bypass For Adult, Pediatric, And Neonatal Patients;  
  • Extracorporeal Circulatory Support For Renal, Neurological, Hepatic, And Vascular Surgery; Extracorporeal Resuscitation;
  • Extracorporeal Circulation For Long–Term  Support Of Failing Respiratory Or Cardiac Function;
  • Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation;
  • Extracorporeal Carbon Dioxide Removal;
  • Myocardial Protection;
  • Perfusion–Assisted Direct Coronary Artery  Bypass;
  • Hemofiltration And Hemodialysis;
  • Anticoagulation And Hemostasis Monitoring, Analysis, And Intervention;
  • Thermal Regulation;
  • Blood Gas And Blood Chemistry Monitoring, Analysis, And Intervention;
  • Physiological Monitoring, Analysis, And  Intervention;
  • Administration Of Blood Components, Pharmaceuticals, And Anesthetic Agents And Pharmaceuticals;
  • Administration Of Anesthetic Agents Through A  Heart Lung Machine
  • Ventricular Assist Device And Mechanical Circulatory Support Management;
  • Intra–Aortic Balloon Counter-pulsation;
  • Temporary Pacemaker Management;

  • Isolated Limb Or Organ Delivery Of Chemotherapeutics, Progenitor Cells, Gene Therapy Vectors and Other Items

  • Intravascular Membrane Oxygenation
Other Tasks and Responsibilities include:
Ancillary responsibilities include: Point of care testing (ThromboElastaGraph [Haemonetics TEG], Blood Gas/Chemistry [Radiometer ABL90], Heparin Concentration/Activated Clotting Time [Healthcare HepCon], maintenance of stock, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Ventricular assist Device (VAD), Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), and Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC). Comply with HIPAA requirements.
  • Must be a current Certified Cardiovascular Perfusionist (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP), with at least three years (3) years of perfusion experience in a hospital setting.
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science or higher degree in a health-related field.  Possess proficiency in instruction, teaching methodology.
  • Must possess experience in adult and pediatric extracorporeal techniques, to include ventricular assist devices (VAD), cell salvage and auto transfusion, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and C02 removal (EMCO and ECCOR), intra-­aortic balloon pumping (IABP), and emergency cardiopulmonary support (CPS). Be familiar with isolated limb and organ perfusion techniques.
  • Must have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA).
