Microbiologist

Performs timely and accurate aseptic sampling and identification of materials and processes throughout the brewing, fermenting, conditioning and packaging functions. Aseptically prepares and dispenses microbiological media into plates or bottles. Processes samples using aseptic techniques onto filters, plate and liquid media, incubates samples per specification for consistent growth and analyses of microorganisms. Identifies micro-organisms and reports out. Inputs all sampling location and times into the Micro-Quality databases in a timely and accurate manner. Maintains a safe clean, sterile laboratory work environment. This includes daily maintenance, cleaning and sterilizing of sampling bottles, equipment (sterile filtration apparatus, autoclaves, incubators, etc.) tools, and work areas. Applicant must also be willing to learn and conduct analytical test methods, training for which will be provided. Help prevent or minimize the production of substandard finished goods, contain any material or product suspect of not meeting standard and assist in disposition of held substandard goods. Help in quality problem prevention; assist in audits of test methods, reactions to test results not meeting standard, and confirmation of proper documentation as required by Corporate Quality Standards or Procedures.

Qualification:

· Knowledge of microbiological evaluation, techniques and methodologies typically acquired through a 4-year degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry or other life sciences; or 3-5 years hands-on experience in a microbiology or biochemical laboratory. Practical knowledge and usage of laboratory equipment including, microscopes, Millipore filtration, autoclaves, incubators (aerobic and anaerobic), pH meters, and media preparation and dispensing equipment. Sufficient knowledge of computers and databases. Microbiology: Sound conceptual knowledge of aseptic sampling, processing, and microorganism development. Requires extensive walking and standing in wet-cold, hot-dry dusty areas. Must lift and carry samples from process areas (25+lbs). Applicant must demonstrate teamwork, ability to assess product/package quality and decide whether beer holds or Faulty Material Reports are necessary. Possess strong interpersonal skills, solid communication skills and the potential to deal with all levels of plant and corporate personnel. Must be able to work independently. Have the ability to coordinate and complete lab work duties with other Quality staff. Must be able to develop proficiency in the use of the computer systems for entering, reviewing and retrieving quality data
