Job Description
MaintenanceBest is looking for a skilled Packaging Equipment Mechanic/Machinist for the troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining of packaging equipment, including analyzing operational equipment challenges, and providing corrective actions to solve malfunctions/issues. Candidates must have strong technical knowledge related to the repair and maintenance of packaging equipment malfunctions.
Outline of position:
  • Able to perform the packaging equipment mechanic position without more than normal supervision.
  • Perform debugging of packaging and conveying equipment, under the supervision of the direction of Maintenance Supervisor and part of our maintenance team.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild and replace mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on plant packaging & processing machinery and equipment.
  • Able to replace or repair components of packaging machinery.
  • Observe machine components, by locating source(s) of problem(s), including determining source of trouble, including initiating the necessary corrective action(s).
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild packaging equipment (bottle unscramblers, cappers, labeler, case erectors, cartoners, film bundlers, VFFS/HFFS pouch machines, bottle sleevers, cartoners and similar.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild axillary equipment used in the packaging equipment industry (temperature controllers, valve gate controllers, conveyers, dosing valves and compressed air lines)
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild flex link conveyor systems.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, service, repair, and rebuild hydraulics, pneumatics, electric motors, control valves, pumps, and gear boxes.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems (motor controls, relays, starters, and electric motors).
Required mechanical knowledge and skills:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in packaging equipment maintenance.
  • Extensive knowledge of the mechanical working principles of packaging machines and equipment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of wire components, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • In-depth knowledge of repairing and troubleshooting pneumatic components as well as interpreting electronic schematics.
  • Well versed in heat tunnels, vertical form filling bag makers, cartoners, bottle cappers, unscramblers, conveyors and case packers
  • Extensive knowledge of operational guidelines, repairing, and preventive maintenance procedures of packaging equipment.
  • Possess effective communication, troubleshooting, and equipment inspection skills.
  • Ability to test, time, synchronize, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, & install mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read & interpret a variety of technical data, such as blueprints, diagrams, & technical orders relating to the mechanical trade.
  • Employee must be able to create written reports on repairs completed and on outstanding repairs necessary.
  • Solid computer skills, including the use of Word, Outlook, and maintenance software.
Qualifications:
  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)
  • Packaging Equipment Maintenance: 5 years (Preferred)
Physical Demands:
  • Physical demands of position require you to walk, stand, bend and lift up to 8 hours each day.
  • Possess excellent vision.
  • Have excellent dexterity, needed in order to perform troubleshooting, maintenance and repair.
