Reporting to the Manager of Patient Financial Services, the Patient Service Representative is responsible for helping to maintain the day the day operations of the programs/area he/she is assigned to.
The Representative must be able to perform well in a high volume and fast paced production work environment with a high degree of accuracy and productivity.
He/she must also perform required tasks independently, assume responsibility for required results and work well in a team environment.

  • Respects patient confidentiality at all time.
  • Accurately and comprehensively collects and enter accurate registration, demographic and insurance information for inpatient, partial, residential and ambulatory patients and/or their representatives in a sensitive and timely manner.
  • Verifies patient insurance coverage with Third Party Payers and determines eligibility by utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Review admissions department data collections for thoroughness and accuracy of patient information.
  • Admit partial, residential and ambulatory patients.
  • Assign appropriate plan code to the admission based on the insurance verification process.
  • Calculate accurate rate reduction amounts based on McLean hospital policy.
  • Responsible for determining deposits amounts, collecting monies and writing receipts.
  • Daily management and resolution of patient rep system worklist.
  • Effectively explain financial policies and procedures to patients and responsible parties.
  • Act as a liaison between hospital, payers, vendors, patients account and patient.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • EPIC experience required
  • 1-3 years of experience in customer service, admission, registration, insurance verification and financial counseling experience or previous office medical billing preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge and the ability to navigate through multiple screens.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast pace area where the performance and concentration of multiple task stimulatingly is required.
  • Excellent customer service skills, work independently and well organized.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to obtain information from patients.
  • Interact with Partners and McLean Hospital personnel, as well as, insurance administrators and vendors required.
  • Proficient use of Excel, Word, HPA, EPIC, adding machine use, and credit card terminals.
