Position summary:

Reporting to the Regional Surety Director for the Central, this individual will assume responsibility and accountability for assigned agents, designated accounts and segment of the region's territory. You will have strong understanding of Underwriting Guidelines and Target Markets objectives and will manage toward underwriting accounts to those standards.
Through your independent marketing efforts, you will produce new relationships with Agents in your territory, and acquire quality new business accounts that will achieve financial targets for overall growth and profitability. New Business goals and underwriting authority level is commensurate with experience level.
This is a Full-time, Exempt role.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Underwrite and manage existing bond account portfolio, specific account assignments, in accordance with Client Surety Underwriting guidelines.
  • Demonstrate independence in marketing the assigned territory to produce new business opportunities and build deep partnerships and promote the Client franchise.
  • Mentor and assist in the development of developing underwriting staff.
  • Assist in the performance and execution of special assignments and projects as requested by Regional or Home Office.
Essential Functions:
  • Focus and priority on assigned Account and Portfolio underwriting success and profitability to Client.
  • Underwrite account and bond risk information to determine risk acceptability, prepare recommendations and make decisions within underwriting parameters
  • Develop agency partnerships and mutually profitable business opportunities & submissions.
  • Cross sell Client products with assigned agents, marketing Surety products as well as promoting the Client franchise
  • Work independently to maintain marketing and underwriting expertise:
    • Mentor and develop less experienced underwriting staff.
    • Develop and execute effective territory business plans by continuously managing book of business (maintain quality of business required by segment strategy).
  • Strengthen overall insurance industry knowledge including understanding of Client products and value proposition.
  • Exceed Customer expectations relative to response time and presentation of surety products and business understanding
Skills and Competencies:
  • Very strong communication skill with demonstration (narrative, professional letter, business email, and verbal), influencing, negotiating, listening, and interpersonal skills to effectively achieve high quality account documentation, decision process, and productive internal and external professional dialogue and interaction.
  • Ability to communicate difficult or technical decisions or comments with confidence and precision.
  • Adept at framing issues and solutions for agents, brokers, and customers.
  • Demonstrate appropriate preparation and ability to conduct a professional business meeting, with timely follow-up and documentation
  • A minimum of ten years related Commercial Surety experience
  • BA/BS Degree or equivalent preferred
  • Command of fundamental and advanced underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Track record of consistently demonstrating high performance across all responsibilities & delivering high results against all departmental goals as well as revenue and profit goals
  • Strong established agency partnerships and agency management skills.
