Senior UX Design Researcher

The role:

Our Client is looking for a passionate and enthusiastic design researcher -- someone who can both inspire and influence innovative, practical, and relevant experiences for our clients.
We have begun a complete overhaul of our digital banking web/mobile platform geared toward start-ups and emerging tech companies and we need you to help us maintain a continuous feedback loop with our clients via the most effective research tool/methodology.
We seek to create high standards for the visual expression of everything we do, simple, intuitive interaction design, a lexicon that helps clients understand complex banking concepts without all the bank speak.
Your work would help us be constantly in the voice of the customer as we strive towards those goals. We’re working in a highly iterative, collaborative, and fast moving team so the combo of thoroughness coupled with adaptability and creativity is ideal.

As Senior UX Design Researcher you will be a core part of the design team partnering closely with product management to run design feedback sessions and usability studies, gather feedback from our client community and the broader community, with a focus on the end-to-end customer journey.

Key activities include:
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design user studies, both formal and guerrilla
  • Document trends in the research for design, product, dev, and other stakeholders.
  • Create regular research readouts or presentations to communicate our research trends to internal stakeholders and collaborators
  • Contribute to prototype creation or concept exploration
  • Write discussion guides, moderator scripts, surveys and any other research artifacts as needed
  • Perform heuristic evaluations and competitive research
  • Facilitate co-design sessions and other style brainstorms
  • Be able to manage and mentor other researchers
Requirements
  • Familiarity with a variety of research methodologies and ability to apply the most appropriate one for the project’s needs
  • Ability to independently plan, document, and justify decisions in all phases of the research process
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in various stages of the research process at once
  • Ability to support researchers’ performance and adherence to project requirements and timelines
  • Stellar presentation and communication skills to lead client sessions as well as share out research and analysis clearly and effectively across the organization
  • Extreme attention to detail, willingness to do “detective work” as needed
  • Solid understanding of interaction design patterns related to web and mobile design
  • Strong sense for user-centered design principles, careful attention to detail, and ability to see the bigger picture
  • Experience collaborating with teams to understand business objectives, needs, and constraints and define research goals to help us all gain a better understanding of clients and their needs
  • Experience using both quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions
  • Possess a strong eye for intuitive experiences
  • Interest in working directly with designers to develop prototypes for testing and implement resulting recommendations
Experience:
  • 7-10 years’ experience as a design researcher for web and software experiences.
  • 1+ years managing and/or mentoring other researchers
  • Degree in a design or research-related field, such as Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Web Design or other concentration preferred.
  • Proficiency in some design tools such as Photoshop, prototyping tools or whatever you use to fuel the process of making smart research happen.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with current web technology capabilities and cross-device considerations.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work in a fast- paced fluid environment
  • Experience with both consumer and business facing applications.
  • Background in finance a plus.

Must have case studies to share that demonstrate experience with research (usability, surveys, other methodologies) for complex application experiences across mobile, desktop, and web.
