Your role:

As an associate scientist/scientist within our Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) group in our Rockville, Maryland facility, your activities will support new assay development (R&D) within the organization, with a specific focus on the use of NGS platforms and methodologies.

Your primary responsibilities will be to work closely with R&D staff to design, develop and implement new assays using NGS as a basic platform.
You will liaise with laboratory management, bioinformatics and support staff to ensure internal and external expectations are met or exceeded.
You will be expected to lead by example and work both independently and collaboratively to advance the application of NGS in the field of biosafety testing.

Who you are:
  • You have a university degree (Masters or higher) in the scientific discipline of molecular biology or biochemistry, with at least two years of experience, post degree within either field.
  • A deep level of understanding and working expertise in assay design and development, NGS, and/or biochemistry (specifically enzymology including protein-DNA interactions) is required.
  • You have relevant working knowledge and experience executing technical projects in the areas of molecular biology and/or biochemistry.
  • You are skilled in troubleshooting and process improvement.
  • You are skilled in applicable computer programs including Microsoft and Linux applications.
  • You are a confident user of MS excel or equivalent (ability to process data, use formulas, etc). Experience working with NCBI resources is highly desired.
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills and time management skills.
  • You are a forward thinker with creative and innovative ideas that you are willing to share.
  • You are highly collaborative, but can also work independently and demonstrate a high level of initiative and confidence.
