Role and Scope of Position:

This position assists in the planning, monitoring and managing of the Company's transmission, distribution, substation and line construction projects.
This position also assists project managers with securing approval for permits and licenses, budgets, materials, contractors and other resources.
This position will assist in the development of group processes, metrics, standards and tools to manage project resources in order to ensure on-time completion in accordance with approved specifications, schedules and budget.

Essential Functions:
  • Assists with the project planning process for all transmission, distribution, substation and line construction projects.
  • Assists project managers in planning construction projects and securing approval for permits and licenses, budgets, materials, contractors and other resources.
  • Assists in developing, monitoring and reporting project management metrics concerning quality, technical specifications, reliability, schedule and budget.
  • Assists with planning of work to ensure optimal integration and coordination of both internal and external resources and the timely delivery of material and equipment.
  • Assists project managers in coordination and selection of NSTAR and contract employees needed for the project team based on the technical and behavioral skills required to support the project.
  • Assists with the determination of assignments, timetables and responsibilities for project team members.
  • Monitors project progress through the compilation and reporting of schedule milestones and changes, as well as cost and resource adjustments.
  • Assists with the review of systems, processes and procedures, and oversees the implementation of modifications.
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
  • Requires preliminary knowledge in the theoretical and practical application of project management techniques and tools including project management software.
  • Requires preliminary knowledge of design and construction of electric transmission and distribution facilities and equipment.
  • Also requires sound written and oral communication skills.
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year in transmission and distribution construction and project management activities.

Working Conditions:
  1. Work is performed primarily in an office environment which requires sitting, standing and general movement throughout the office area.
  2. Work will require visiting multiple locations on a frequent basis.
  3. Attends to problems in off-hours and for extended periods, if necessary.
