"Gas Mobile Work and Asset Management” Project Solution Architect
 
This position is responsible for systems integration analysis and design of technical solutions for proposed and existing information technology (IT) projects.
Ensures that IT solutions meet current and proposed architecture standards.
Develops conceptual, preliminary and detailed cross-functional design solutions and determines the application and technology requirements.
Develops the test methodology for the solution and actively participates in test plan development.
Determines the non-functional requirements of the solution, including availability and scalability. Assists with all phases of an IT project including design, build, test and implementation.
 
Technical Knowledge/Skills:
  • Requires extensive knowledge of systems development methodologies and systems integration methodologies.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of business application technical design and implementation.
  • Requires strong IT technology knowledge. Requires strong interpersonal and communications skills.
Education:
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, related discipline or equivalent experience.
Experience:
  • Minimum of eight (8) years business and technical experience.
 
This is a one year assignment. The primary work site will be Windsor, Connecticut. On-site presence may be required at other company locations (most likely Westwood, MA, Southborough, MA, Dorchester, MA, or Berlin, CT) during the duration of the assignment. The one year assignment is the minimum duration.
 
Solution Architect Description and Duties
 
The Solution Architect (SA) will work closely with the lead Program Architect, the IT Lead, and the Project Manager of this specific project to organize the development effort and deliver technical solutions that satisfy the projects business objectives.
The SA ensures that IT solutions meet current and proposed architecture standards, develops conceptual, preliminary, and detailed cross-functional design solutions and determines the application and technology requirements.
The designs are reviewed with the lead SA and other SA peers in the architecture group and presented to both the project steering committee and the company's IT management at large.
The SA collaborates with the Business Solutions Analyst (BSA) to determine the non-functional requirements of the solution, including availability and scalability.
The SA assists with all phases of the track including design, build, test, and implementation. The company follows a specific project methodology with deliverable templates which the SA uses.
 
This project is part of a series of projects that will provide and update the mobile technology used by the company's field workers. It will consolidate the business processes and systems used by Gas Work and Asset Management Services in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
 
All mobile projects are part of the Work and Asset Management Strategy developed in December, 2015 that will modernize the systems as well as business practices for the company's Operations. The five projects under the Operations Mobility (MOB) initiative are:

This project will consolidate the Gas Work and Asset Management Services business processes across Connecticut and Massachusetts based on industry best practices and replace the associated IT systems with a modern, user friendly enterprise mobile work management system which provides solution integration services that function transparently and operate across these systems: Maximo, Click, and WorkForce. This new system implementation will support secure mobile Gas data collection, distribution, metrics, database repository, secure access for technicians, dispatchers, field supervisors, customer service representatives and all concerned authorized Client principles providing Client customers with much improved customer service.
 
Primary Job Functions for the SA:
  • Provide architectural leadership on the design and development of a solution for the enterprise
  • Drive the translation of the business client's complex business problems into the selected technology solutions by overseeing the design of complete solutions that leverage various IT services components.
  • Researches possible solutions and alternatives for implementation of the project technology applications, business process and technical problems, problems, performs an analysis of alternatives, and leads the recommendation to a solution.
  • Coordinates and develops systems integration designs for the project, including high-level and detailed system, application and technology diagrams.
  • Aligns the selected technology solutions with the technical architecture, operational processes and lifecycle processes.
  • Ensures that the IT solution fits with the current and planned enterprise architecture and standards as well as IT strategies and IT product roadmaps.
  • Creates solution architecture documentation and deliverables throughout the project lifecycle of the solutions.
  • Ensure that the project infrastructure is supportable and can be transitioned smoothly into production support organizations.
  • Works with 3rd party vendors to ensure that deliverables are completed on-time and under budget.
Additional job functions expected for this project:
  • Work with the Program team to complete Integration Agreements and Technical Requirement documents for services being designed and developed as part of this solution
  • Collaborate with data architects, infrastructure architects, and other portfolio/program architects across the organization to ensure the proposed solution aligns closely with the portfolio/enterprise level architecture
  • Be an IT liaison between various vendors engaged with and business staff for the project.
  • Manage that IT tasks are being completed on a timely basis per project timeline. This may include tasks such as procuring and configuration of servers, attending Change Control management meetings, developing implementation plans, etc.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Energy / Electric / Gas Utility Experience
  • Candidate should have experience with utility mobile applications, infrastructure, configuration, security, and operations.
  • Experience with mobile systems such as ClickSchedule, Click Mobile, GIS, drawing tools
  • Experience with backend utility field operations systems such Maximo, GIS, Workday, Workforce
  • Experience with EAI integrations using WebMethods
