Will need experience in configuration management for large scale operations (large scale management). Configuration management and AWS SSM experience are a huge plus as well. Someone that has AWS security and best practices experience is a plus.

Responsibilities and duties:
- Cloud management - need to ensure things are running according to policy and security.
- Will develop and provide the tooling, policy, procedures and methodology of the cloud.
- Understand the big picture and not have too narrow of a scope of what they are looking at - everything is at a company level and not just their team.
- Understanding of SAAS vs PAAS
- Hands on work - good understanding of Terraform and Ansible automation and scripts
- Would like this person to be onsite 2-3 days/week early on - after they are up to speed then there can be more remote options

What candidates need for this Position:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field

Position Responsibilities:
We are seeking talented individuals to join our Cloud Strategy team. If you are a well-trained and motivated Cloud Engineer with strong AWS and operational experience and are interested in a career delivering innovative solutions to our growing client base in higher education, then this is your ideal opportunity! As a Senior Cloud Engineer within the Cloud Strategy group, you will be responsible for:
  • Driving the tooling, methodology, policy, and processes to help operate successfully at scale within the cloud. Focus on both configuration and cloud management.
  • Identifying, analyzing, and optimizing cloud operations processes in collaboration with the Network, Platform, and Applications teams for automating.
  • Writing process requirements documents and decomposing each requirement into multiple user stories for sprint development cycle.
  • Designing, documenting, developing, testing, and deploying automation tools
  • Writing standard operating procedures and training our operations engineers to use and maintain the automation tools.
  • Testing, deploying, and advocating the use of technologies such as Git, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, AWS SSM, ETC. With focus on built-in AWS technologies.
  • Analyzing changes in business requirements and updating the existing documents, processes, methods, procedures, and tools to work with these changes.
  • Providing direction and support to junior cloud engineers in all phases of tool development life cycle.
  • Assisting the manager in addressing complex provisioning, deployment, configuration, and automation projects.
  • Helping to drive down and maintain cost within the cloud

Position Requirements:

Required qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in configuration management for large scale operations.
  • 2+ years of experience in developing and deploying automation tools using Bash, PowerShell, Python, Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, Packer, and Git.
  • 2+ years of experience with AWS VPC, EC2, S3, EBS, RDS, ELB, SNS, AMI, IAM, KMS, Route 53, CloudWatch, and Lambda.
  • A good understanding of AWS billing and cost structures.
  • Using scrum development methodology with JIRA.
  • Writing process requirements, technical design documents, and standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborating with cross functional global and remote teams with diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrating the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to adapt to changes in the business requirements.
  • Demonstrating good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Desired qualifications
  • AWS Certified System Architect or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer.
  • Experience in large scale configuration management for enterprise scale operations.
  • Experience with AWS SSM (Systems Manager) a plus.
  • Ability to understand and see the big picture when looking at solutions.
  • Serverless application development using Lambda, Containers, ETC.
  • Network administration including DNS, IPAM, VPN, SSL certificates, and firewalls
  • Linux and Windows administration including AD and ADFS
