Position Overview:
The Ecommerce Product Manager is primarily responsible for our client's Higher Education Group eCommerce customer experience, tools and enabling platforms for our B to C online proprieties, and optimizing conversion to drive purchases across desktop, tablet, and mobile channels. This role develops ROI/ business cases and defines business requirements with a focus on the 1600+ client's Managed campus store ecommerce websites, while considering the impacts to all business units sharing functionality within the eCommerce platform. The position leads the business requirements definition; partners with development/technical, 3rd party vendors, eCommerce operations, and QA teams to implement; and measures the results of new functionality/features for the eCommerce platform across desktop, mobile, and tablet experiences. This position will concentrate on many of the merchandising, user experience and analytic tools and capabilities that support the e-client business (Product Management of platforms, tools and capabilities such as Adobe Analytics, onsite search, online merchandising, product recommendations, testing/user experience tools, Tealeaf and others).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices, including competitive offerings, to inform product roadmap.
  • Perform due diligence and necessary analysis to vet new product/feature ideas.
  • Work with internal business stakeholders (ex: Legal, Channel Marketing, Retail Store Operations, eCommerce Operations, Customer Service, Course Materials & General Merchandise, Campus store managers) to understand and prioritize business needs and to communicate new features/functionality or utilities.
  • Synthesize internal and external stakeholder feedback, develop ROI/ business cases, write business requirements, lead implementation and measurement of new features. Work with functional business owners and IT development to execute on the roadmap and vision. This position needs to drive a better customer experience and financial metrics for desktop, mobile, and tablet sites, as well as with any supporting platforms and capabilities (Adobe Analytics, Product Recommendations, Tealeaf, Onsite Search (Solr) and others).
  • Manage product plans, building and maintaining product roadmap, phasing, prioritization, and producing business requirements for all features in an iterative development process.
  • Partner with IT & QA leadership to ensure that releases are executed flawlessly.
  • Triage and manage site outages if they occur. Evening / weekend hours are a part of the job especially during releases, peak business times or site outages.
  • Work closely with development/technical/operational partners and 3rd party vendors (Adobe, IBM, etc.) to design solutions and manage the go to market and education process for eventual use by users.
  • As required, lead product management and marketing communications for Executive Leadership, Sales, Operations, and other teams.
  • Manage 3rd Party Partner relationships; securing necessary engagement/resource alignment for the co-developed Product Features, Product Implementation, Deployment and Support.
  • Identify opportunities and provide insightful and actionable recommendations for improving the business based on current and historical data.
  • Help new team identify improvement areas for tool and analysis of recs and other tools.
  • Define, Track, and Improve KPIs to drive revenue and margin.
  • Assist with full P&L responsibility, which includes product growth and profitability through inventory management, customer experience, and product lifecycle management.
  • Assist with monthly financials/accruals processes and budget management.
  • Lead/manage capital and expense initiatives.
  • As required negotiate and manage vendor / contractual relationships (i.e. Tealeaf, Adobe, Certona and others).
  • Create and track financial plan for new roadmap items/modules, working closely with other product managers, functional business owners and IT development leaders.
  • Develop business cases (ROI/NPV) for roadmap initiatives and assist in strategic capital planning processes together with cross-functional teams.
  • Cross-train and support teammates for vacation coverage.
  • Aid team during rush in running site KPIs and other rush duties as required.
  • Adhere to Expectations of a Product Manager and e-client Teammate Document.
  • Support project management of product team initiatives when needed.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, eCommerce/Web Analytics, Engineering/Sciences, or Information Technology is preferable. MBA desirable.
  • 4+ years of online merchandising, web analytics, digital marketing, IT product and/or project management, experience with managing large-scale and enterprise-wide projects and/or eCommerce, Retail businesses.
  • Experience with web-based B2C eCommerce platforms.
  • Strong financial acumen with P&L/ROI responsibility, business case development and the ability to achieve results through others. Partner with Finance to create financial models for initiatives.
  • Must be a well-seasoned business professional with strategic vision and customer-focused orientation, judgment skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong experience in translating business needs into product features.
  • Understands drivers of the business to prioritize product requirements and roadmap for future features/ enhancements for desktop, mobile, and tablet experiences.
  • Well versed in the use of marketing analytics to gather insights to enhance the customer experience. Past experience with user testing is desirable.
  • Proven responsibility for creating and managing a strategic plan and multi-year product roadmap. Demonstrated ability to execute on the delivery of product roadmap for an ecommerce business.
  • Possess well-developed business judgment, which permits the creation of meaningful insight from potentially disparate findings.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and analytical skills with outstanding verbal, written communication and presentation skills to convey product growth and profitability results in front of cross-functional and Senior Leadership.
  • Ability to lead, influence, and coordinate activities in a cross functional team-oriented environment. Strong collaboration and constituent management skills. Ability to influence internal and external partners to achieve results.
  • The ability to work well with multiple stakeholders in both a technical and business environment.
