Network Support Engineer-- SoHoNet

Req Notes:
  • 1st and 3rd line support
  • Basically a support engineer with networking skills and customization experience
  • Needs to have know the theory of networking devices (Juniper, etc) and applying the theory (not massive amounts of experience with a particular vendor)
  • Intelligent, could be more of a blank canvas but pick up things quickly
  • Know the basics (the theory behind things without actual experience)
  • Focus on networking, not so much sys admin
  • Year out of college, so they took a course on sys admin (linux) would be ideal
  • They use Windows (but get MacBook Pro)
  • Virtualization - not as important as the experience with networking and sys admin
  • Scripting (python) is beneficial but not at all required

Day-to-day:
  • Multi-tasking, working on a team with 7 globally (global support team is 25)
  • Working on technical issues and supporting issues
  • Troubleshooting between London and LA
  • Download speeds
  • Decommissioning or commissioning
  • Testing and rolling out new equipment
  • Physically installing new equipment

Additional Notes:
  • May be required to work additional hours (OTE) and will be paid OT
  • Called out (on call) once or twice a year (also paid)
