Location: Riverwoods, IL

We are seng a hands-on Scrum Master who has had experience leading software development scrum teams, and who understands App/Dev environments (APIs, Systems integration, continuous integration & delivery, etc). The scrum master will serve the team to turn user stories and epics into working software.

  • Possesses conflict resolution, does conversation by focusing on scrum values of openness, honesty and respect.
  • Should be a friendly communicative person, because when team is moving fast in Agile, communication is the effective force which holds the team together.
  • Needs to forecast the numbers of deliverables possible in an iteration, which is based on evidence and reliable source.
  • Needs to be expert in estimation and planning. Know how to create useful, reliable and practical plans for software development projects.
  • Facilitate the team for better creativity and try to improve the efficiency of the development team.
  • Serving as the Scrum Master for 2-3 smaller scale Agile development teams, spread across multiple locations.
  • Facilitating the core Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, daily stand-up, sprint demo, retrospective, etc.) for the team.
  • Enabling team to be fully functional and productive.
  • Obtaining commitments from the PO, BA, Dev and QA groups.
  • Sharing responsibility for quality of work delivered by his/her team. Holding him/herself and the team accountable.
  • Taking on additional "project management” tasks, such as planning for releases and conducting reporting for executive management.
  • Working in lock-step with the Product Owner (PO) for product demo, retrospectives, backlog grooming, etc.
  • Establishing timelines for sprint deliverables, assisting with work-task and subtask breakdowns, and story-pointing activities.
  • Tracking status in Jira (estimated vs. actual timelines, issue tracking).
  • Identifying, understanding, and removing impediments to the team's success.
  • Coaching the Scrum team, as well as others in organization on Scrum practices, ensuring the team adheres to Scrum principles:
    • Evangelizes and documents our approach to agile practices.
    • Seeks out the latest in agile practices and rolls them out to other scrum teams.
    • Instill sense of urgency and integrity in team, along with a sense of team ownership towards commitments.
    • Coaches team on the estimation process. May also participate in the estimation during the planning meeting.
    • Helps the team assess their own execution of agile and work on continuous improvement.
    • Help team or individual to clarify goals and actions to achieve them.
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Industry-recognized certification in Agile/Scrum - required.
Experience, Knowledge and Tools
  • 3+ years as a Scrum Master for software development teams
  • 3-7 years in BA/PM/Developer role in IT
  • Experience with enterprise-scale software development, including Continuous Integration & Delivery (CICD)
  • Experience working with distributed team
  • Understanding of basic fundamentals of iterative and incremental development
  • Familiarity with other processes and methodologies (Kanban, XP, SAFe) and can speak intelligently about them and leverage other techniques to provide value to a team/enterprise
  • Understand fundamentals of software development processes and procedures
  • Understand the value of commitments to delivery made by a development team
  • Understand incremental delivery and the value of metrics
  • Experience with backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, and task definition
  • Ability to shield his team from outside distractions and interferences.
  • Ability to ensure the correct use of scrum process.
  • Ability to track and remove impediments.

Travel up to 10% of work time to dispersed teams and other work groups.
