Overview of the position:
The Tax Technology Leader is responsible for driving the Tax application strategy and portfolio for the Corporate Tax Department with a focus on developing, improving, and maintaining the C tax technology profile. This role will serve as project manager for the application development process, interact with tax personnel on a global basis to identify opportunities to utilize technology, and be the primary point of contact with the leadership of technology function.

Tax utilizes technology wherever possible to improve its operations and analytical capabilities. This role will have a critical impact on the future of Tax as it looks to continue to identify and implement new technology solutions and improve operational efficiencies.

Overall Job Responsibilities:
  • Overall project manager which is responsible for developing IT strategy based on business needs, establishing project priorities for Tax, and selecting and implementing all tax technology-related improvements, automation, and integration initiatives.
  • Partner with IT organization and other software vendors supervising the installation, upgrade and daily maintenance of tax software applications.
  • Proactive liaison with application vendors to represent Tax needs, keep up-to-date on current and future technology tools available for core applications including: ONESOURCE Tax Software Suite, Sabrix, MS SharePoint, Oracle Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), and SAP and ensure that Tax Department personnel are aware and educated on the use of these applications.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage, streamline, and better manage the access and flow of relevant data into the tax department with the use of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, business intelligence (BI), potential robotic process automation (RPA) and tax data hubs.
  • Represent Tax on overall technology initiatives impacting Tax (i.e. general ledger upgrades, ERP system implementation, organizational changes impacting how we gather data)
  • Overall governance of Tax SharePoint site and structure
  • Secure tax records, adhere to records retention policies, support jurisdictional audits, provide quality control over critical spreadsheets used within the Tax Department and maintain SOX controls throughout all associated processes

Breakdown of Tax Specialty Areas:
  • This position will be the process partner for all tax specialty areas including Income Tax Reporting, Tax Accounting, Forecasting, Planning, Transfer Pricing, and Transaction Tax teams
  • The Tax Department is a global organization so interaction with the regional teams will be part of this responsibility

Candidate Profile:
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive IT experience supporting tax and/or accounting department. Undergraduate degree in MIS preferred; Accounting or Finance degree an alternative. Advanced degree or CPA a plus.
  • Basic level understanding of corporate income tax provision and income tax compliance concepts. Some accounting background would be a plus.
  • Working knowledge of mainstream accounting applications including HFM and SAP, or the ability to learn these applications as it applies to extracting and utilizing data from these systems.
  • Working knowledge of database and delivery tool development. This includes MS Access, SQL, Visual Basic, and Oracle. Also, it is important to maintain strong MS skills (Advanced Excel, Power Query, Power BI, Excel macros) and web based skills
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills and be able to understand and articulate the data and technical requirements of Tax Professionals to IT partners
  • Need to maintain a strong teamwork ethic, be flexible and able to multi-task.
  • Strong project management and documentation skills are important attributes for this position.
  • Leadership skills is an important attribute since the role requires this person to encourage the use of technology and bring new ideas and opportunities to Tax in a constantly changing environment.
