JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:

A Sr. Network Engineer's main responsibility is to provide day-to-day support of the Company's storage and server based technologies. They support and maintain server hardware; NAS and SAN to ensure proper operability and generate detailed monthly reports detailing uptime and utilization. The Sr. Network Engineer is responsible to install and maintain server hardware and the applications that run upon them. They manage and administrate the Company's Active directory and storage technologies to ensure proper operation. The incumbent monitors server stability and performance and implement a solution if / when a problem is found. They plan and execute DR testing and maintain detailed documentation of the server and SAN infrastructure. The incumbent also ensures logs and alerts are reviewed and attended to. They participate in the long term planning of the network and perform periodic reviews of maintenance contracts to ensure the company is not at risk. They also design; develop and deploy complex solutions. The incumbent will seek and participate in development opportunities outside of the organizations offerings. A Sr. Network Engineer will manage or co-manage and coordinate the implementation of multiple projects that have department or division-wide implications and impact. Such efforts will require cross-function involvement with IT groups. They are responsible for the creation of project plans, timelines, milestones, goals and ownership. The position requires the ability to participate in after hours tasks such as on-call responsibilities and organizational outage windows. The incumbent also ensures proper change management processes are followed at all times.

Dimensions / Scope:

Works independently on multiple small or large-scale projects. Expected to be able to mentor newer or junior associates. Regular interface with some supervision during customer meetings. Responsibility for providing budget detail to support planning.
  • Customers are primarily internal and interaction is on a daily/weekly basis.

  • Will work on 6-8 small-scale projects (one or a few departments or client groups) or 2-4 large-scale projects (many departments or an Organization division) assigned to them from department management.

Responsibilities Matrix:
Technology:
  • Management, maintenance, updating, and support of Company's Server and Storage technologies.
  • Identification and correction of server and SAN issues.
  • Understanding and execution of Windows Server operating systems. Understanding of EMC SAN technologies and concepts.
  • Manage Windows servers and EMC storage platforms.
  • Understanding of server technologies and hardware.
Project Management:
  • Lead project scope development and options analysis.
  • Identify and recommend solution to meet customer needs, and implement chosen solution.
  • Manage projects from identification of need to implementation and ongoing monitoring of system/solution performance.
  • Provide project planning the ability to follow organizational processes.
  • Ability to enter data into organizations systems of record.
Analytics:
  • Involved in analyzing system/software performance and adjust server / storage specifications based on any identified problems.
  • Analyze server and SAN hardware to ensure that hardware is utilized at its highest capacity
  • Perform server analysis and disaster recovery planning and testing for the Company's Windows server environment.
Customer Experience:
  • Communicate with client groups on a regular basis to determine needs
  • Work closely with customer's leadership and project team during scope development and option analysis phase.
  • Manage the projects and/or solutions to client group expectations.
  • Communication of project status to management and customer on regular basis.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Associates degree required, advanced degrees preferred
  • MSCNE certification preferred; previous experience with SAN infrastructure.
  • 3-5 years of functional experience
  • 2-3 years of project management (including mid-to-large scale projects, and managing multiple projects at one time)
  • Experience and full fluency in the following hardware/software (depending on role):
    • VMWare and Citrix Hypervisors
    • Client Hardware and Insight manager monitoring tools.
    • Windows Server operating systems
    • NETIQ or equivalent server monitoring systems.
    • Network interface setup and configurations
    • Server virtualization techniques.
    • Server backup and recovery systems and software.
    • SAN storage infrastructure.
    • Remote deployment concepts and tools.
    • Anti-virus solutions.
    • Microsoft office applications (including Visio)
