Position overview:
 
The IT Project Manager is a pivotal team member that unifies the various disciplines to reach a common objective. Strong leadership skills are required to bring the project to successful completion with an eye toward effective timeline, budget, and scope management while delivering high impact work. The Project Manager must fully understand the goals and objectives of the projects they are assigned, develop the implementation plan, and communicate it effectively to their team. This role reports to the Sr. Director, Application Development.
 
Responsibilities and Qualifications:
  • Work with teams to develop robust Statements of Work in order to develop specifications for projects, detailed project plans, schedules, and accurate estimation of project costs.
  • Create and manage project schedules as assigned utilizing project management tools, standards, processes and templates, including tracking task and deliverable completion and updating the project schedule accordingly.
  • Consistently demonstrate core Project Management skills in facilitation, communication, attention to detail, negotiation, technical skills, effective leadership skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effectively manage projects to ensure timelines, budgets, scope, and established internal and external (client) expectations are met.
  • Continuously evaluate the progress of projects, including performing ongoing risk assessment, keeping stakeholders apprised on the status of projects, and reporting and escalating issues appropriately.
  • Proactively identify changes in scope and escalate budget or timeline concerns.
  • Understand relationship of estimates versus actuals and subsequent actions needed to ensure good overall project performance
  • Develop and sustain cooperative cross-functional working relationships to inspire, influence, motivate, and guide others towards goal accomplishments. Encourage and facilitate cooperation within the organization and with customer groups. Foster commitment, team spirit, pride, and trust. Show courtesy, tact, empathy, and an understanding of the varied backgrounds and differences of project team stakeholders.
  • Actively pursue increased knowledge within the Project Management discipline by assisting with planning and managing large complex projects and continuous learning in the areas of project management methodologies, best practices, and processes.
  • Consistently deliver excellent customer service, both internally and externally, and confidently interact with clients.
  • Like to blow off steam playing Galaga, Ms. Client-man, Pool, Ping-Pong or Air Hockey
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in the field of Project Management, Business Management, or Information Technology or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of four year's hands-on project management experience in a corporate or related setting
  • Advanced computer skills with proficiency in MS Office and demonstrated general working knowledge of Microsoft Project or equivalent project management software tool
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks in a fast-paced environment, effectively prioritize work, and deliver quality results
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions when confronted with obstacles, think about them before taking action, and consistently resolve issues in creative and effective ways
  • Self-starter who works well independently and an outstanding ability to follow up with minimal direction and a focus on team success
  • A strong work ethic with a "get the job done” approach and consistently delivers excellent customer service, both internally and externally
  • Intuitive, adaptable, creative, and collaborative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative nature with strong team building skills and willing to learn from and accept guidance from others
  • Strong resource planning skills in an agile development organization

  • Experience as an IT Project Manager in a technical environment or some other experience as a technician
  • Proven experience and success in a technical environment understanding and communicating technical requirements, scope, and work to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Day to day duties: 
 
  1. Being the liaison between Sciant folks and our partners
  2. Documenting what was agreed between the different teams
  3. Follow up with our developers and IT to make sure Sciant has what they need
  4. Answering business questions or getting the information from folks like Ted and Jason (business stakeholders)
  5. Evaluating time sheets to make sure they more or less track to the plan
  6. Evaluating project reports and demos created by Sciant PMs and escalate if there is a need for our intervention
 
These are most of the activities I do currently and expect the new person to take over a lot of that from me, the core PM work is being done by the Sciant PMs and they are doing a good job of that. So we really need a BA who can do a little bit of PM type of activities.
