My client has an immediate need for a Web Developer! You will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining our website and other digital products, in all participating phases of the development lifecycle. You have a general idea of the architecture and usage of languages and tools and know how they work in practice, so you can quickly draw parallels when you need to learn new technologies.
  • Program custom components of the website using programming languages like PHP, HTML5, JS, CSS3, which is currently in Expression Engine, and being migrated to Wordpress.
  • Interpret customer/internal requirements to fully and accurately establish functional specifications and product documentation.
  • Be fully engaged with our growing team and use Scrum procedures to communicate the deliverables and brainstorm ideas.
  • Effectively develop products to accomplish expected functionality that satisfies the business goals and the users' needs.
  • Takes ownership of Wordpress theme, ensuring that standards and practices are followed as closely as possible.
  • Takes ownership of styles and behaviors of the website, and thoroughly documenting them. Primarily using jQuery and SCSS.
  • Configuration and execution of automated UX tests.
  • Writes requirements and scope of projects, subject to review.
  • Provides feedback on assigned tasks that require clarification.
  • Estimates time to develop requested features and changes.
  • Designs, develops, and implements solutions to meet business and technical challenges with limited guidance.
  • Effectively communicates and works with system users and peers.
  • Leads development projects as assigned. Follows in development projects as assigned.
  • Mentors peers on system and software expertise; provides technical presentations and training on areas of expertise.
  • Assists with interviews of potential newcomers to the company development team.
  • Maintains existing and develops new application components.
  • Tests and debugs new application objects.
  • Participates in all aspects of product development, using agile development methodologies.
  • Participates in implementation and upgrade projects.
Bachelor's (4-year) degree: Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, or an equivalent Engineering Degree preferred
Experience
  • 5+ years of development experience with major CMS(s), preferably Wordpress and/or Drupal. Expression Engine a plus, but not necessary.
  • Experience with large-scale websites including load balancing and caching systems (ex. Varnish, Redis, memcached).
  • Skilled with all aspects of Wordpress, optimization and configuration, and an eager willingness to learn.
  • Extensive experience with Apache, Linux, and MySQL.
  • Experience with some form of continuous integration.
  • The ability to write your own SQL queries manually, and read and understand queries written by others.
  • Knowledgeable about other technologies and reliable integration solutions to suggest. You are able to speak confidently about cross-platform integration with Wordpress.
Skills:
PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JS. Understand how to write clean and modular code even with your version of CSS (Scalable and Modular Architecture for CSS)

Mobile-first development, with comfort in progressive-enhancement in larger, more-capable devices.
  • Diagnose problems at any level (Client, HTTP/Network, Server, Database, OS). .
  • Comfortable with cli git, curl, grep (or ack), tail, vim, scp and general file/disk management tasks.
  • UML, object-oriented design, and component architectures are good things to know.
  • Experience with any of these testing tools: xDebug, xhProf, PHPUnit, BeHat.
  • Comfort in any of these database systems: MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, ElasticSearch, PostgreSQL, Oracle
  • GitHub, Grant / Gulp
  • Experience with Amazon AWS or other secure cloud services platforms
  • Strong communication skills with customer facing experience.
  • You excel in a fast pace environment with little guidance.
  • Experienced with the agile development methodology and scrum framework.
  • Passionate about open source technologies and interested in learning new ones.
  • Think big, start small and proceed with the Lean UX concept (high impact/low effort, Minimum Viable Product - MVP)
